Ive recently acquired a 275gal tank that I am planning on using for offroad diesel storage.

I want to put inline particulate and water filters on it as well.

What are some good home usage 12v pumps?

I have been looking at offerings from GPI and Fill-Rite. Any other companies to consider?

GPI EZ-8 Fuel Pump
Fill-Rite SD1202G

I have been researching the same topic but for a much smaller tank. The consensus is you must have excellent filtering or you introduce very fine rust particles to your delicate fuel system and its important to keep your tank as full as possible to reduce both rust formation and water condensation. Users seem to hate the fill rite and gpi pumps with the same intensity. Go no go filters are rated very highly but are very expensive. If you are using a using an older steel tank, I would suggest 2 golden rod filters. Let us know what you end up using.

I've been using a 12v GPI with a Goldenrod filter for about the last 15 years and no issues so far.

Probably a good idea to treat your fuel tho' ...

I have been using a Fillrite 15 GPM 12Volt fuel pump for 7 years with no problems. My fuel tank is stored in my boat shed which is fully enclosed so it isn't exposed to any rain. My brother in law also has the same pump which just sets under an open shed and he has had some issues with the micro-switch that turns the pump on and off but just required cleaning the contacts. Other than that issue, we haven't had any problems. He uses the Golden Rod filter from TSC. I have a screw on filter (Racor? maybe cant remember the brand name on it) on my tank and no fuel issues. I finally had to change the fuel filters on my B26 and RTV900 after 450 Hours. The B26 had some trash in it but he RTV was still clean.

I bought the Fill-Rite SD1202G pump and a inline golden rod filter, the hydro (496) filter.

I may add on another particulate filter. The GR-496 says its only a 17 micron filter.

I might throw a highflow 10micron filter after it.

Any suggestions on particulate filters?

That's the same pump I have used for the past 15 years or so. At one time I had the same goldenrod filter (although non water block) followed inline by a spin on water block cartridge. I have since switched to using just the spin on water block filter.
The bowl filter lets you see the junk that it has caught, but I prefer the convenience of a spin on cartridge. I believe either of the goldenrod filters (water block or not) are 10u filters.
Do yourself a favor now and but an auto shutoff nozzle!

I put together a 12v pump from HF and filter apparatus and hose from TSC. Works well. Cheap.

We use Goldenrod 596-3/4 Water-Block fuel Filter. Spin on type, $29. for the filter and mount. Very happy with them.

Thanks for the info. Good to know your pump has been working so well. Is yours in a location that is covered or uncovered?

I keep getting different specs on the micron levels for those filters. Some say 17, some 10 I think I saw one listed 3.

I'll prob have to pick up a few more parts at TSC to complete it. I think TSC sells GPI and Cim-Tek filters. Which did you end up with?

Cool. I went with the clear bowl filter because of the drain on it. Im hoping that might give me a few more gallons of usage out of it. Maybe not. We'll see.

How far should the fuel pick up be off the bottom? I would imagine a few inches to keep from picking up water and sludge accumulation. I am planning on having the the pump and bottom drain on opposite sides and tilt the tank towards the drain.

I think I might need a few more inches of length in the pick up though.

The filter is a GoldenRod 596-5 Brand seems to be "DL". Bought the filter a few years ago at TSC so maybe they have changed suppliers.

My system worked well and shut itself down as designed when I got a water contaminated batch of fuel. Since then I have just been using 5 gallon cans of diesel instead of the 30 gallon tank so don't use it anymore even though I bought a replacement filter. I'd be happy to sell you the whole outfit but doubt shipping would be economical.

I used to know what the micron rating meant (when correctly described). I believe the old spec (still frequently used to make the filter sound better) is called "nominal" which means a 10u filter will catch 50% of 10u particles. I do know that a 3u filter would have to be pretty large to permit reasonable fuel pumping flow. I had a 3u hydraulic filter on my previous tractor that was I believe 3u (b3) that filters 99.9(9?) of the 3u particles at still only 3 gal per min. The thing was larger than a loaf of bread. Anyway.... I probably shouldn't be discussing things I am not sure of.
As far as the pump is concerned, it lives outside on my pickup truck transfer tank with the 12v plug inside a bed mounted tool box. I've painted it twice over the years, currently Rustoleum hammered metal silver.

Made some progress on my tank.

I ended up replacing the pvc pickup with a 36" steel one and put a 45* end on the suction side.

I got the vented fill cap on. I did not anticipate the center not being a 2" threaded hole. Shame on me for not paying attention. So I have a 1.5" bung to pick up yet to cap it.

I also replaced the drain that was leaking with a new one with a ball valve instead of the screw-in/out type. No more leaks.

Tank needs a wash yet and resprayed with some white paint.

Im still not sure about the platform. I ended up using that 4x8 sheet of plywood for sizing and then the drain leaked. I think I might frame in a 4x8 space and fill it with rock. Not sure i am committed to its location so I am hesitant to pour a concrete pad.

Yes, I agree, Looks like a nice setup. If still unsure on placement, I would be a little nervous on it shifting or toppling without anchored to concrete. Kind of top-heavy?? 1950 lbs plus the tank. So your frame you spoke of with a gravel base, .... are you thinking like treated 6x6's and anchoring to them?
