I recently started a small business doing tractor work with my 1401D. It works well for what I am doing, in fact I got a job because of my machine's ability to get in tight places. I eventually want to replace my 1401D with something a little more powerful and efficient, but don't want to give up the ability to fit in tight spaces. I really like the idea of a powershift tractor, which brings me to the 1510D. I've never seen the two tractors side by side, but they appear to be about the same size. Is the 1510D significantly more capable than the 1401D, or is it just a 1401D with powershift?

I have a 1510d with the powershift and its pretty neat to shift without having to use the clutch all the time-I think they are rated at 19 h.p.-I live in port orchard, and am going to sell mine, as I need a larger tractor( I just bought a fx26d, hope I can find parts for it) Jeff

Roy,
Early this year I got a bunch of 1510d's with FEL's. I sold all but one and tried it out for a few weeks. My "demo/personal" tractor was always a 1401d w/FEL. After using the 1510d for about 3 hours of work, I sold the 1401d to the next customer that asked about it, and now always keep a 1510d around the place.
Differences that I like:
Price is not much more than 1401d ($200+-)
Length & width the same; 1510 a little higher
18" rear tires vs 16"
Shift on-the-fly Powershift trans--great for loader work (fwd-rev, back & forth all day long- with ease)
3 speed transfer case (although I rarely use low-low)
Almost 200lbs. heavier (great with full bucket of muck)

The only thing I don't like is climbing in and out. The shifter is right in the way.

I think you are definately on the right track. Though if you are going to do a good bit of loader work, you might want to look at the YM1610D. I don't know how much bigger it is physically, but it is built alot heavier than the 1510D, which makes it a better loader tractor. I'm pretty sure that the 1401 and 1510 have the same engine. If you are satisfied with the power and weight of the 1401D, then the 1510D is a very close match.

Thanks guys. I am happy with the 1401D's power. I run a 42" brush hog and it seems to be a good match. I'm glad I didn't go with the 48. There are times when I wish it was heavier for loader work- 400 lbs. is pushing it. Well if things go well it looks like it's just about time to go tractor shopping! /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif
