150 Acres of Burnt Up Oak

I love Grace manufacturing but I don't like trying to shear oak. It's really rough on the shear and often "pops" off the stump. If you a bunching grapple, and hold the wood, you can make several "nips" and then it will cut better.

Thank you for the tip. I know that Ryan's also offer a buncher hot saw. I'm still worried about the rocky ground though. I'll know better after I get out there and have a better look.

Have you looked at the Marshall Tree Saw, that is a shear, not a saw? Marshall Tree Saw | Tree Removal | Models | Land Clearing

Yes, I spent a lot of time looking at the saw. While I really like its abilities, a buncher shear looks to be much more efficient since with smaller trees it can hold one or more trees and shear another one too. For this particular job it will make one machine more efficient. I've pretty much settled on Ryan's 15" buncher shear.

Edited to add: I also like the looks of the M&M Hydra Clip, but they're in the middle of moving their manufacturing facility and are four weeks out from starting up production.

Just curious, did this project ever come to pass? If so, how is it panning out for you?

I spent some time out there checking out access and came up with a game plan and pricing. The property owner was onboard and ready to roll, so I started getting shear prices for models from Ryan's and M&M. On the day I was going to order the shear, the owner called up and said that he was going to go with the dozer guy and would be calling me to cleanup the mess.

Oh well. Cleaning up the mess may be more profitable anyway!

I just had something similar happen.

Quoted a price to demo a old farm house, save the stones from the foundation, burn the rest and regrade the site.

It wasn't going to be cheap but Guy says sure go ahead. Then the day I was going to call to reserve the rental equipment he backs out on me, says we will do it later.

I figure he got to talking around town and some goof ball said they do it for half what I quoted. I wonder if I'll still make my profit on the tail end of the project, cleaning up someone's mess. I hope, I want to rub it in.

I hate cleaning up someone else's mess!
May be just me, but I generally charge a little extra for cleaning up after someone else.
Putting trees on the ground is like Elk hunting. Once they hit the ground, all the fun is over and the work begins.
I hope you do good on the clean up if you get it.:drink:

After really getting a feel for the terrain at the property, I can't imagine it NOT being a total mess with a dozer. The weird thing is...the customer even told me he thought he was making a mistake by going this direction.

I've given up on trying to figure people out.

Maybe he has a family member with a dozer?
