JP - All I can say is "Wow, thank you very much!" You went above and beyond to help a fellow Massey owner out!

I didn't manage to get any pictuures this weekend as I spent all day Saturday trying to repair my neighbor's PTO-Powered sander (you can't let sand freeze in the sander, turn the PTO on and not expect something to break!) and most of Sunday plowing my yard.

I currently have only the factory plug of course...I didn't recall seeing a seperate loose wire in the headliner however... When you say the yellow power wire is seperate and attaches to the orange wire in the tractor, is the orange wire one of the wires in the white factory plug, or is there a seperate loose orange wire up in there that I need to look for?

Thanks again!

Rich

It is an REI brand (Radio Engineering Industries). I know, I never heard of it either:). But it seems to play fine and, after scanning through the stations, reception seems to be as good as the factory radio in my pick-up. He also installed a short (compared to most auto antennas) antenna on top of the cab.

JP - I Googled the REI and found their web site: Home - REI - radioeng.com

After browsing their site, it appears that they specialize in bus, transit and Ag/Construction electronics. It looks like your dealer got the antenna there as well. What model radio do you have? I haven't checked the prices yet, but I am seriously thinking of giving them a shot.

Thanks!

Rich

There is a hole located on the outside of the cab pillar on the LH side I believe for the antenna. I think the cable is already in the pillar from the factory.

Rich, you can tell I am a southern boy... when you mentioned "plowing my yard", I thought WHAT??? Then I realized you meant snow, and my heart slowed back down. We only plow in the summer down here!:D And, not usually in the yard! Even with the mention of a sander, my first thought, before I read the whole sentence, was of an electric or air tool that uses sandpaper. I was thinking, WOW! PTO sander, I could eat up some wood with that!!

The factory orange wire is in the white connector. The yellow wire is only on a separate connector in the middle. At the radio it goes back into the single plug that goes into the back of the radio. In your owners manual, the foldout wiring diagram on page D27 shows the radio connector as item 11. Your page number may be different, but it should be on your cab wiring page.

BTW, no problem, glad to help, jp

I thought of doing that, just never did, thanks for checking it out. I knew from the radio manual that they at least specialized in motor homes because it mentioned a few times about "your RV dealer". No mention of Ag, but bus and RV is probably where their biggest volume is.

I don't have the manual here, it's in the shop with the tractor. But from the picture and features on their site, it is this one: Model 701179D6. It is the AM/FM/CD/MP3 w/Aux input. Looks like it has everything they offer in a radio except weather band. You might want to consider that, could be nice to be warned of an incoming storm.

I am really pleased with mine, since I didn't ask for it. Well, at least I didn't ask for a radio, but when he offered an AM/FM/cassette I did tell him, "No, if you don't have one with a CD player, then just put in a plain AM/FM". I was supprized he even still had any with cassette players.

Looks like my antenna is Part No. 210066.

If they really do "engineer" radios for Ag/construction use, it should be more rugged than one for a car. Time will tell, I have one really rough pasture to mow, so until I get it plowed up (dirt plowing, not snow:D) and smoothed it (and me) may take a beating.

One thing I didn't see on their site was adapters. I was hoping (since they do Ag stuff) they might list a Massey adapter. Since 1500 series are from Japan, maybe it is the same as a Japanese auto. Anybody know???

I didn't see a dealer locator on their site, but there is a toll-free number for sales, maybe they will sell direct.

I don't recall a hole...but my dealer did tell me that the wire was in there when he delivered the tractor. I pulled the inside panel off on that pillar and did a quick search, but I didn't see anything. The side pillar is where I had planned to install my antenna when I get one... Also, when I pulled the blank plate where the radio goes, I couldn't find any antenna cable tucked away in there...only the white harness cable plug.

Sorry I confused you about the "plowing"....I do dirt plowing too, but during the winter it's a whole different game! Boy, do I like having a cab with heat!

I didn't see adapters either, but one of the three links that they provide on their site is Agco, so it may be promising! I plan to call them sometime today.... I'll keep everyone posted; thanks again!

I looked at all 4 pillars today, don't see a hole, plugged or open. Maybe it was there on older models. The front pillar on my cab has a rounded surface, I don't think an antenna mount would seal, and there is no access to the back side, it appears to be a tube. Also, on mine, both of those tubes have a rubber hose hanging out the bottom, appears to be an AC condensate drain hose. Inside the headliner I didn't see an extra antenna cable either, only the one going to the roof mount antenna, I can see the base of it through the radio mount opening. An antenna could be mounted to one of the amber warning light mounting brackets. It looked like if you mounted the antenna to the pillar below the amber lights, the lights would be in the way of the antenna.

For Rich: After I ran my mouth about you plowing in the winter, this is what I woke up to this morning:

I know, it's not much, and certainly not enough to plow, but even this is unusual for here. (don't think I can justify a snow plow:))

BTW, have you called REI?

See...you made fun of me and the snow God's retaliated! :)

I received an e-mail yesterday from one of their sales contacts in response to the e-mail request I sent. He didn't say much in the e-mail, just gave me a number and extension to call. I called yesterday afternoon, but got his voice mail so I left a message with my contact info. If I don't hear from him, I'll try again after lunch.

I have a sneaking suspicion that their prices are going to be high... :(
