my 2006 1533 got air in its fuel system, I've bled as best I know how, including up to the injector line at the injector... I saw fuel pulsing out but didn't have enough hands to keep the fuel pumping while tightening the fuel line.

Is it necessary to tighten the line while the starter is cranking to get all the air out?

Another question about using ether starter fluid. This tractor has glow plugs and it says in the manual to NOT use it. however, I've spoken to others and they say you can use a little and no harm. Has anyone here used ether to start one with glow plugs? any gotchas or terrible "the engine blows up don't do it" stories?

when trying to start I can smell fuel and it tries to start, but won't quite get there. it just seems like it isn't getting enough fuel, or isn't staring fast enough, although the battery is new and it seems to spin as fast as it always did. (new battery, new lift pump, which was un-necessary).

thanks

DO NOT use ether. If you got all the air out, I am wondering if it is you solonoid mounted on the back of tne inje tor pump?

Can you find a helper, to assist with the bleeding?

Parts pages show an electric fuel pump which draws fuel from the tank through the filter and supplies the injector pump. Remove the supply hose from the injection pump, point it into a container and turn the key on. The fuel supply should be steady and free of air bubbles or foam. Any poor connections between tank and pump inlet(bad hoses, loose clamps, filter seals or gaskets) can allow air in the system. If you're satisfied it's fuel at this point and not air, install the hose and let the pump run for a minute. Loosen at least two of the easiest injector lines you can get to at the injectors, all if you can. Crank until you see spurts of fuel out the lines in sequence. Tighten lines and crank until you begin to see some smoke out the stack. Now hold the glow plugs for thirty seconds or so and crank again. It should start.

Thanks guys, I have done all the above a few weeks ago. I didn't have help to keep it cranking while watching the fuel come out at the injector lines, so I stopped it when I saw that and then tightened the lines. It was a lot colder than it was today.

I didn't have help to re try the injector lines again, so I just tried to crank it leaving the glow plugs on for a good while first. It almost cranked, but not quite, has a good bit of smoke coming out, but no good yet.

Next weekend I'll have a chance to try again and will go through the whole sequence above. When you say "fuel squirts in sequence" I assume you mean that it should be spurting in the same order as the firing order in a regular manner... ? Do you guys think it is necessary to keep cranking until I get the injector lines tightened back up? doesn't seem like it should be necessary but what do I know.

At any rate I'll try the entire thing again next weekend. Anyone else with any different ideas are welcome, and thanks for the help so far.

I followed your instructions with the exception of I only loosened one injector nut and was not able to get any fuel through it. I am excited and hopeful that if I loosen all three that it will be the cure. Thanks so much for the tip

Do you hear a fairly loud click when you turn the key to the on position? The noise should come from the rear right hand side of the engine.

Your original post was in March of 2012. Are you saying you still can't start your tractor over 2 years later? I find this hard to believe???

2 different people posted.

I noticed the different log on names but only one issue is being discussed by what appears to be the same person. Looks like a loss of ID and re-register. Look at the join date and post count.

This is zzy, I don't know much about computers or tractors but this is my situation. I bought a new 1533 massey in 2006. The only problem I've had is cranking. It will crank and run for long periods of time without any problems but some days without any warning it wii not crank or try to crank. I found if I let it sit for a long period of time it would ccank up like nothing was ever wrong. But this last time after a 3hr bush hog job, I couldn't get it off the trailer. I followed the help I found here and I get fuel to the injector pump through the big nut on the supply line. No air seems to be in the line. I tighten the big nut back down and loosen the smaller nut on the injector getting a good pulse of fuel. I tighten back down. I remove all three injector line nuts and run the fuel pump with no sign of fuel. I crank engine over with no sign of fuel. I did not crank for a long period of time, I didn't think it was necessary. The dealership where I bought it has closed down, no help there. I would like to fix it myself but I need advise.

I am still unable to get fuel through the injector pump

Got ya! It almost sounds like you have an air leak. Maybe the filter housing o-ring if you changed the filter just before the problems.

New to your site. Just experienced the same issue with my 2005 1533. Replaced fuel filter, started and ran tractor for an hour and parked it in the barn for the night. I went out yesterday and the tractor would not start. Today I verified fuel to the filter and cracked the bleeder screw to remove any air and it still would not start. Plenty of fuel from the pump to the bleeder screw.I cracked the injector lines and i was not able to move any fuel to the injectors. Any ideas folks?

I had same problem, tried everything as you all. then one day i took the whole filter assembly apart and used a blow gun on all the lines and holes on assembly and bunch of crap came out of assembly steel lines. Hope this helps. oh and the bowl filled right up fast when i turned on the lever when before
it would just trickle till full.

There is a second bleeder screw on the injection pump that you will need to bleed as the remaining air likely migrated to this area over night. Bleed there and try to crank. If it still doesn't crank you will need to bleed the injector lines. This can only be accomplished by turning over the engine to activate the pump. Good luck!
