About the bucket flopping around. The dump cylinders may be captivating. They do that when the weigh in the bucket pulls the bucket down faster than fluid is going into the backside of the cylinder. Air separates from the fluid and causes the slow down. A regenerative valve will eliminate it almost entirely if the lever is put directly into the regenerative position when you need to dump. If you use the regular dump position to start and then go to the regenerative position, then the separation has already taken place and the slow down is already set up. If a heavy load is in the bucket it is important to go directly to the regenerative position if you want to dump fast and over come this lag.
This happens on all brands, not just Massey.

Well i hope they find a soulution, i was using the tractor again tonight and it gets old having the bucket flop around and not hold a grade, and having this thing surging all the time.

If you have a tractor mounted joystick from the factory, then Jerry is right, use the regen positon. If you have a joystick mounted on a pedestal or a joystick the is conected to the valve with cables, install a oneway restrictor to the line supplying hydraulic oil to the rod end of your bucket cylinders and that will resolve your issue. The restrictor should have a 5/64" floating orifice in it that restricts flow in one direction only. Install it so that the flow of oil escaping the rod and of the bucket cylinder is slowed down just a little bit while dumping the bucket and allows full flow when curling the bucket. It has no negative affect on bucket dump and curl times, does not cause the oil to get any hotter and it gets rid of the floppy bucket.

Thanks for the input, i will try the valve thing, mine does have the tractor joystick. Could i be getting air in the system from this causing the whole loader to surge?

Have you tried raising and lowering and dumping and tilting the bucket back when there is no load in the bucket. If the lag goes away and doesn't come back while doing this, it more than likely just captivation taking place and not air being introduced into your system.

I talked to my MF service rep/mechanic about this (although I have NOT had this problem). He said it is a recognized problem in some models, but a MINOR one that can be solved easily if the mechanic understands what is going on...If I understand correctly there is a 90 degree turn in the hose/fitting past the filter where tiny bubbles can coellesce into a bigger bubble over time and that is the source of the problem. He believes the newer models dont have this problem and the ones that do can easily be retrofitted with a 1440 filter and hose/fitting w/o the 90 turn. this is the best I can remember about his explaination other than I shouldnt worry if it happens to mine because he can fix it in about an hour time....
For what its worth, after 50 hrs my 1540 Hydro works great,
