Thanks for those pics and congrats on your new toy. I wish I had a cab right about now in the northeast but I suppose I should be lucky the wife agreed to me getting a tractor instead of replacing her 89 Honda Civic, meanwhile I paid off my 02' f150 supercrew with 6" lift and 35" tires. I guess I cant protest her request for new living room furniture for her birthday--10 year old furniture is a little beat-up after raising 2 children and 2 dogs and 2 cats on it! Anyway the best of luck with the new machine!!

Thanks guys, I am lovin' the whole thing, cab and all!

Woody, life (as you know) is nothing but choices and compromise. I just last Feb paid off my 03 Chevy pickup, almost a year without payments was nice. Maybe after you get the furniture, you can talk her into trading up to a cab. If those children have moved out, that might be in the budget!

Actually, I probably spent as much on gas this summer, as the truck payments would have been. No... the more I think about it, I spent MORE on gas. I moved from GA back home to AR right when gas was at it highest. I made five trips with a 16ft trailer, three times each with a car (and household "stuff" loaded in and around the cars), one trip with mostly my shop tools and equipment, and the last one with pack-rat "stuff". Those gas bills ate me alive! As soon as we got moved, gas started going down, made me sick.:( But we are here now, settled in and we love it. We moved from 2.5 acres close to town to 12 acres about 15 miles from town. It is about half and half wooded and pasture, so HAD to have a tractor to maintain the pasture. (She fell for it:D)

So, JDeerekid, to further answer your question, besides the mowing, our house (and the shop) are on a slight slope. The back yard goes uphill and there is a bit of a drainage problem, some water goes under the house during heavy rains. At the shop, the slope is downward toward the roll-up doors on the one side and the shed on the back of the shop. No water goes inside, but it should have been graded better when it was built. So, I plan on tearing those areas up with the teeth on a box blade, sub-soiler, or whatever it takes, then moving it to fill in low areas. I also want to add an awning out from the end of the shop where the roll-up doors are, and that area will have to be graded level first. I know some of this sounds like dozier work, but I think I can take my time and "git-er-done". I am retired, so time is my greatest asset now:)

I went today and bought a used Land Pride FDR2572 (6FT) finish mower and a box blade. Next, I think I need a disc harrow. One of the pastures is really rough (furrows left from some type of row crop), so I am going to have to smooth that up some way. What else to do with a tractor with a loader? You guys that have one know, the possibilities are endless!

The finish mower sounds like a good idea, I am going to start looking when the weather breaks.

The finish mower worked out great. The pastures had not been mowed all last summer, and had no animals on them after mid-summer. Grass had grown up chest high, then fell over in the rain, so they were a mess. The blades on the mower as purchased were very dull and the back sides were worn through some. But I decided to use them as is, since I wasn't sure what I might find under all that grass. I didn't find anything on the ground, but did find some holes, appeared to be old stump holes, that will need to be filled in. The mower cut the matted grass very well, just left lots of clumps since it was so thick. Of course it was so dry it was easy to cut compared to green, growing grass. Now all I need is three new blades and it will be ready for the summer.

Still looking for a disc harrow.

Seems so weird to read about you cutting grass when I'm sitting at work, 64 degrees in my "officle", 30 degrees outside, and wondering what the best way to fix my snowplow is when I get out of work! ;)
