I have a 1590 loader on my DK 50. By my ciphering it will pick up about 1700 lbs.

Quick attatch plate
forks
150 gallons of water in a tote.

It might pick up a few more gallons of water, but it does not want any more than that. I don't know how much the quick attach plate weighs (>200lbs?), but the forks are 200-300lbs, and the water is 1249 lbs.

The reason I'm asking is I'm trying to figure out how big a grapple bucket to buy. I don't want to waste my pick-up on the bucket. I will be picking up brush, stumps, and stuff out of some grub piles on my property.

Give me your advice please!

Hey , I also have a DK50 with a 1590 loader. My loader manual says it will lift 2500lbs at pivot pins with 1100lbs of ballast on the back.Let us know how the grapple works when you get one. Thats been on my list of items to get I have a lot of brush and briars to clear out.

I have a DK45 with a 1590 with QA and my forks also weigh about 300 pounds. I've unloaded 3200 pound pallets of paver stone from my pickup bed and transported them around the yard. The 2500 pound specification is at max height. The lift capacity changes with the loader's geometry through it's arc of motion, at ground level the 1590 is rated to lift 4000 pounds. If your loader is only able to get 1700 off the ground there is a problem somewhere, maybe the pressure release valve is set way below the 2400 psi spec.

As to a grapples weight my 6' root bucket weights over 500 pounds. The tractor has no problem lifting or moving 16' sections of 18" diameter green balsam logs with that bucket. The rears are loaded and either mount the backhoe or attach a heavy (500 pound+) implement when lifting these heavy loads.

Darn,
Is that something I can check or does someone with some sense need to do it. It has been like that since the day I got it(May 29, 2002). I've talked to folks at W.R. Long about it and they siad that sounds about right. All I know is I cant even come close to filling the bucket full of 57 stone.

Well I know which bucket to get now.

Are you saying it won''t lift it or it won't roll it back? There is a big difference here... I might believe that it won't roll that back, but it should lift it OK.

Well it won't do both. If I can't roll the bucket back, then I can't lift it due to all the material falling out. When I'm lifting my tote of water, It won't roll it back if I have more than 150 - 175 gallons of water in it. It will pick up the tote fine. I've only filled it up higher than that once. It wouldn't roll it back. I picked it up and when I tried to roll it back it let go and the tote fell off of the forks. I guess I should have been a little clearer.

I checked the fluid today. It was a little low but was between the low and full mark on the dipstick. I thought about changing it, but I don't want to if I take it to the dealer to look at it. I talked to him and he said that the relief valve might need to be turned up. He also mentioned that he has seen many that needed adjusting, some are low some are high from the factory.

O.K. here is the latest experiment. Rback was right. I can pick up alot more than I can rollback. Is that what Rback stands for? Anywho I have to 600 liter totes, one full and the other at 200, I can pick it up but can't roll it back. Drained the top one to 100 liters and after pushing on the foot throttle, I got it to roll back.

700 liters of water weighs 1541 lbs.
Forks weighs 300lbs.
Quick Attach plate 150 lbs (guess)
The totes center is about 18 to 20 inches out from edge of forks. I know that has some bearing, just don't know how much. All that together should put me in the ballpark of 2000 lbs.

My question is do I need to take it to the dealer to get it checked out or is that about right?

Right, wrong or indifferent that's probably about right. You will also find that as you lift higher you have more rollback power. That's the way the physics works even though it is kinda backwards. You CAN get a kit to improve the rollback capacity as well as the rollback angle. I think your cost on these kits ends of being around $1000 if I am not mistaken. Wallace or some of the other dealers can tell you for sure.

As for the rback33....that started in college in various chat locations and MSN. I played running back in high school and corner in college (was switching back when my shoulder told me enough was enough) and my number was 33.

I don't think I need to improve my rollback for 1000 bucks.
I don't think the loader was much over $5000.00. Thanks for your expertise. I just have to figure out if I want a 3/8" or a 1/2" grapple rake. The 3/8" weighs in at 600lbs vs. the 1/2" at 720lbs.

Either there is something wrong with your loader or my unmodified 2005 model is special in some way. It has no problem rolling back a bucket full of gravel (as full as the rollback angle allows) and holding it to max height. It could not rollback the pallets of paver stones much beyond horizontal, but it can hold it there.
