16' opening Door header: on load bearing wall

Here's a shot from my old place, where the 16' door was on an eave. From the looks of it, that's a stack of 14" or 16" LVLs sitting on two 2x6 jack studs, though I can't say if there are two or three LVLs (I suspect three). Sorry, not a great shot but it's all I could find. Trusses for that home were on 24" centers and we typically plan for a snow+dead load of 25 to 30psf in this area.

No codebook that I am aware of. I cannot recall seeing any houses with a double garage door that wasn't on a gable end?
Never seen a house with a full hip roof with a 2 car garage??

Go to the lumber yard and order a glu-lam that will meet your specs. You will get an engineered beam for a reasonable price and know that it will do the job.

I'm more concerned about your attachment plan for the beam to post than I am about your beam plan.

I certainly may revisit the post to beam connections.

Just dont like the idea of setting beams and trusses ON something. In my mind, it just dont seem secure enough. I would rather notch and thru-bolt if I can.

Setting on something guarantees the best method of transfer weight where you want it, down the post to your footing.

You just need to use an appropriate means of connection to prevent uplift and resist sideways forces. There are brackets that you could use.

H/TSP Seismic and Hurricane Ties

You could fasten your other trusses to the posts with the cut out of part of the post like you described but use these type of brackets for the 6 trusses above the 2 16 foot door opennings.
