Sam's clubs that have gas have three prices--The lowest for members, the second lowest for non-members who pay with a Walmart gift card, the highest for non-members who pay by credit card (they don't take cash, but you can go next door to Walmart to get the gift card). Even the highest price is 7 cents lower than brand gas and 3 cents lower than non-brand gas.

My local dealer.

I had a similar experience with a mower I just bought a few months ago. It is a trail mower for my atv. Well it's engine blew up and I thought it was under warranty.(Briggs+Stratton) So I brought it to my local lawn mower place. The owner asked me where I bought it. I tell him from cabellas. He says he doesnt even want to look at it, Briggs and Stratton doesn't even pay his hourly rate so it's not even worth his time. And I should have bought it local instead of mail order. Now one thing he did for me is show me what a greedy Ba#$#%d he was and guarantee I will never patronize his place again. I think he wasn't concerned about making money but he just didn't like it that I didn't purchase from him.

Re: My local dealer.

Sounds like Briggs and Stratton pays a significantly lower hourly rate than is standard for repairs. Therefore if you didn't buy it there, he won't do the lower rate work. If he has plenty of work, he does the work that pays the best. Sounds like the HMO's in medicine (We'll give you lots or work, but we pay 40-50 cents on the dollar,-- when your average payment is 63 cents you say no.)

Re: My local dealer.

I have repaired some machines that were nightmares!!
Just ask Leonard, he got us the parts.
We had an F16-D torn apart for a person from Oregon
in 250 pcs. (no joke) gears everywhere.
It was a job that we really didnt want, but we swallowed hard and took it on,
We charged the customer $350. for 3 days of solid work.
Why 350? Because he was willing to wait & his attitude was what you call a gentlemen. As a result, he is now a member of yanmar bynet !

Im sorry, but in my shop (sometimes) attitude dictates the price.

I am the proud owner of a Shibaura but I've been hitchhiking on your site every since I started my search for a tractor. I've thoroughly enjoyed all of your comments and advice. Since I'm not a business owner (as far as tractors are concerned), I can't reasonably comment on pricing policies. I'm sure all of you are right in some respects. I would like to say that we are all consumers--at one time or another-- searching for a product or service. For instance, I recently took my Dodge pickup to a dealer who wanted to charge me $650.00 for what amounted to a tuneup (replacing plugs and wires, servicing the throttle body etc). I did it myself and saved $575.00 and it only took 1.5 hours. Bottom line is that I felt they wanted to CHEAT me and I'll never use their service unless I have no other choice. I respect your expertise and integrity and will close by saying 'please treat us (consumers who are trying to get the best bang for the buck) like you would want to be treated.' I read that somewhere. Fantastic site with fantastic people!!!!

One of the benefits of this site is it helps get the consumer pointed in the right direction and helps him to stay away from the shadier side. Every issue has multiple sides. No one dealer can be everything to everyone. On the other hand, being polite and respectful goes a long way in getting others to help you (always say please and thank you and bring some beer for the end of the day when you come to pick up your machine).

Works well and you get a lot of good will for the cost of a six pack. Most people appreciate being told thank you and that you appreciate their expertise and help (alot of times in medicine this is much more important than being paid).

Along with the 350. came a case of michelob !!!

And the thank you is what makes it all worthwhile, doesn't it.
