A 1,600' gravel driveway will take an awful lot of time to maintain with a Box Blade as your primary tool. I second MtnViewRanch that a Land Plane should be your choice if gravel driveway grading is your priority job.

I'm sure you two are 100% correct but I gotta watch my pockets. They don't go so deep. After reading here and what you and MtnViewRanch have said as well as others I'll probably save for a Land Plane for next spring. They do look like an excellent implement.

That is very odd that they have it listed that way. (I'm sure that it is a mistake) How in the world would they know how much power you were putting to the PTO with a 30HP engine? What if you had a gear model, way more power. It has to be mistake. I have seen others as well, not the first and I'm sure it's not the last. :(

Just got off the phone with the the LP dealer. My FDR1672 should be here within 2 weeks he said.

Went ahead an got a howse from the dealer for a good price. Now I'm torn between the LP1672 finish mower, Bush Hog RDTH 72 mower, and Howse C372 the dealer want to sell me. Leaning towards the LP but would like to buy from the dealer. He's been pretty good to me. I just don't know much about the Howse mowers. Any ideas on which of the three would be the best?

If you got the one you originally listed from your dealer, then it is fairly light. About 55lbs/ft I think. It will still work fine, but be sure to use it carefully or you'll twist the 3ph attachment area. Just be mindful while you use it and it will work well for you.

Land planes are apparently the nuts for driveway maintenance but not for all the digging it sounds like you plan on doing, so the box blade may have been the best first choice.

We made the same choice in getting the boxblade first, now I'm collecting the metal to construct a land plane.

Ditto going with the bigger mower, it does speed the process and no matter what you'll still have areas you need to mow on foot and/or trim with a string trimmer, etc.

Congrats on the new toys, use them in good health!

PS: DO consider either weighting your tires ("beet juice"/Rimguard, windshield washer fluid, RV Antifreeze, or Calcium Chloride Solution, OR wheel weights, or both- either will help your traction and lower your center of gravity. Apparently, wheel weights will also reduce your front axle loading.

Gonna try and get a land plane in the spring. The tires were filled with washer fluid. So far so good.
