Great, thanks for the feed back.
Now all I have to do is convince my wife that "she" needs it to shoot those pesky ground squirrels who are eating her garden.:)

Without a doubt! My wife paid 200 bucks for my Marlin...it has a wooden stock ( I prefer synthetic) and NO accutrigger!

Podunk
I thought Marlin had their own version of the Accutrigger and it was being included on all RF. It seems Savage is putting it on all theirs.

I was looking at buying this rifle with Accu trigger.
It's on sale at Big 5 for just over $200 bucks. Is it any good for the price?
.17 HMR Savage

I have this gun with wood stock. See a few posts up for photos. I paid $205.00. I have put about 50 rounds of the Hornaday 17 grain through it. The action is smooth. Every round has loaded, fired, and ejected perfectly. I think you will like the gun.

Not that I'm aware of...I know mine doesn't have it. The trigger creeps and feels like it's got about a 100lb pull:( Still, it does the job and shoots really tight groups.

I just googled the accutrigger issue on the Marlin, didn't see anything on it. Saw a lot of posts over at thehighroad.org THR - Powered by vBulletin from guys WISHING it did.

Hi Podunk...Was just over at the Marlin site and they claim all of their RF fires come w/ the T-900 trigger. I assumed this was very much like the Savage Accutrigger. However, after some web searching it appears this isnt the case. As you said the factory trigger is still very bad. However, Rifle Basix makes a drop in replacement thats supposed to substantially correct the problems. It runs about $80.

Last yr Remington started w/ a new trigger in their varmint rifles (X-Mark Pro) which is supposed to be better than the old 'lawyer trigger'. So, most (but not all) of the FA makers are at least trying to supply better factory triggers.

Thanks JimG. I'll research the trigger.

Thanx for the replies...I thought there would be more hunters here but guess not.

Podunk...if you find that beaver Id like to know what the damage was. One of my concerns is that the 17 is going to slice/dice what would otherwise be edible. The crows and rabbits I dont care about but I want the squirrels and groundhogs in one piece/not blown up. At any rate Id really be interested in hearing about your on-going 'adventures' w. the 17HMR esp hunting info.

JimG,
I know it's been a while, I never did find that beaver;), but I did whack an armadillo today that was out rooting up my yard.

Posting the pics on my photobucket site so as to not scare the bejesus out of somebody's kid who's got a TBN account.

He was 38 yards from my back deck, where I shot him from. Big sucker and male too.

.17HMR did him in.

When I have shot my 220 Swift with 40gr bullets I have never found more than fragments. I have had several distintegrate in brush. Looking at .17HMR ballistics I would not trust them to break up like that. The major problem with the 220 Swift is the noise and short barrel life except with stainless steel barrels. I generally load down to about 3600 fps and get good accuracy there. I have not shot it lately and can not find my old data.

Picked up a Savage 17 with the accutrigger and wood thumbhole stock and accutrigger, bull barrel and then put a cheaper Simmons 6.5 - 20 X scope on it. This thing is just AWESOME. Shoots a group less than a dime at 100 yards. This week it has taken two of those pesky gophers and one mischevious raccoon. All head shots and this little cartridge packed a wallop on these little critters, the 22 mag and the 22 have now been moved to the back of the safe and will probably stay there.

Since seeing my .17, my uncle wants one. He's been looking at the one you have. He always has to one-up-me;)

Mine doesn't shoot groups that small...I blame the fixed power 4x32 scope. At 100 yards, the horizontal wire hides the entire target (if shooting something small). There isn't anyway to "fine tune" my shots, short of replacing the scope. I thought of putting a VX1 on it by Leupold, something like a 3-9x40. I know I could do better with a higher quality optic and some trigger work.

Still, it works for varmints and hasn't let me down yet.
