Wouldn't it be easier to cut an inch or 2 off the exiting insert?
it would be closer to 4 inches but yes.... that is a possibility

From the pics it looks like you have several inches of adjustment left to make them shorter. After straightening them, just remove the pins when hooking up, allowing the stabilizer/insert to move in/out as needed. After hookup to the attachment is complete, reinstall the pin in whichever hole lines up for the best fit.

The OP used the term "brush hog." Nothing wrong with that and many users say it. I suspect more people use that term out in the country side than "rotary cutter." Rotary cutter is a bit more universal among manufacturers and in the literature. Bush Hog is as you say a brand name.

Super easy to straighten. Hard flat surface and a 3 lb hammer.

Afterward keep them snug but not tight. Make sure 3 pt with implement can raise and lower without binding.
