Does anyone know what the differences were between the 1861-62 and the model 1863? Thanks.

The major differences are just the engines. The 1861 and 1862 have Kohler mag 18 engines while the newer 1863 and 1864 have a Kohler command 18 engine. Also, the 1861 and the 1863 have manual steering and the 1862 and 1863 have powersteering.

Thanks. Are they a garden tractor? Would you happen to know roughly from what time period the 1863 might be from? I'm guessing that the 63 and 64 are post IH CC. Also would one in nice shape with 700 hrs and a 48" deck be a good buy for $975?

That would be a very good buy if well maintained. When you get to a number like 700 hours the maintenance is the whole difference, if well maintained it will go another 700 hours, if poorly maintained it might be close to having problems.

1860 and 1861 and 1862 were made 1990-1992, 1863 and 1864 were made 1993-1997. All were made by Cub Cadet Corp., not IH. They are all garden tractors.

Also, the 1861 and the 1863 have manual steering and the 1862 and 1863 have powersteering.

Magicalj, I think you meant to say the 1862 and 1864 have power steering. I'm not sure what was different about an 1860 vs. the 1861, do you know?

Thanks Dave for correcting me. Your right, I meant to say the 1864 has power steering. I'm not sure of the difference between the 1860 and the 1861. The only thing I could even think of might be the front axle. they might have changed the axle on the 1861 to the "Super Steer" axle, but this is just a guess, so don't quote me on that. I was just looking in my book and noticed a weird thing. My book says the 1863 has a "Hydro-Gear" hydrostatic pump, while the 1864 has a "Sunstrand" hydro pump. I can't confirm that this is true, but that is what my book says.

Ok, I'm being lazy and not changing what I typed, but I just noticed the 1860 has a manual lift and the 1861 has a hydraulic lift. That's the difference.
