1963 ford 4000 - pto will not engage

the tractor is badged a 4000, since they only made this model from 1962-1964 at the end of the 801 model. It by all pratical terms it is an 801, but with a different hood and its painted blue and white out of the factory. I bought the tractor a year ago and I have
rebuilt most of it. The constant draft has never worked, they had a nut wedged behind the lever to hold it down. I replaced the pressure relief valve on the bottom, since the gasket was leaking. The hydraulics were leaking down slowly for a while and now it wont work at all. I never had a problem with the pto, until the hyraulics quit working.

My bleeder nut is on the top front of the pump, it takes a 9/16 wrench to remove it

Does your tractor have a 2 stage clutch? If you push it 2/3s of the way, it stops the tractor. The last 1/3 stops the PTO as well.

I have a 960, 860, and 841. I have had all of them split in half at one time or another. From what you described, your tractor is basically an 861. If so, there is absolutely no way that hydraulic failure could effect the PTO.

Unless it has a some rare PTO option...

do you get oil out of you hyd. pump bleeder

I have a foed 4000 five speed trans. clutch pedal stands straight up. tried to adjust it down than pto would not release

can you restate that and be more descriptive?

so far i see you have a 400 with a 5spd and the clutch is tall. that's pretty normal. the 5spd dual cluth puts that pedal up near your knee.

on them dual clutches.. when you step half way, drivetrian clutches.. and allthe way.. pto finally goes.

sound slike you wanted to change the design ford made and have a low pedal.. so you adjusted the bajeebers out of it. and now figured out that you can't get the pto to disengage. am i correct?

I have the same problem with my PTO. It grinds also trying to engage. I have to engage it before starting the traactor. Haven't had the money to take it somewhere to get fixed. Hoping to get a new tractor soon. I just hope my 4000 will hold out until then.

you are right. but the is so high it is almost tilted back.hard to get foot on it. Ithought it might haye an adjustment on it.

the ford 5spd live pto pedal height is near vertical.

just the way it is.
