I hope you can assist me. I have a 1966 Ford 4000 and can not get to turn over. My son in law is a mechanic...he tried bleeding the filter..all good, still cranking strong but will not turn over. He then bled the injector pump..all good...but still will not turn over. He then checked the lines and there he does not get any fuel...
Cranks strong just will not turn over.
It ran great all winter and then one day I went out to start it and it cranks but would not turn over...then a couple days later it started..now just cranking. What do you think?

Crank and turn over are the same thing sort of. If it's cranking, it's turning over.

What it isn't doing is firing.

A mechanic would know how to check fuel flow from the tank to the injectors.

" He then checked the lines and there he does not get any fuel..."

It sounds like there is a blockage in the tank itself, or the line somewhere. Maybe something floating in the tank or a partially collapsed fuel line.

What lines specifically did he check when there was no fuel? The injector lines? Start at the first line out of the fuel tank. Open it and be sure you have good flow from the tank. There may be stoppage in there. Then replace the fuel filter. Bleed the injector pump until you're sure all air is out of the system. If you've got good fuel flow through the system it should go. Oh, and check the glow plugs if it uses them, to be sure they work.

I know that he checked the lines and that is where he was not getting fuel. It appeared that the pump was not pumping fuel. He bled the filter and had a great fuel flow. Then bled the injector pump and also had a good fuel flow. It was when he checked the 1st line out (closest to the steering wheel)
And did not get any fuel coming out at all. I have never checked the glow plug but I could check that. I would think if the pump itself went up I would of had more indications that it was having problems.

Not sure why you have 8n in the model if its a 4000?

Where were the "lines" not getting fuel. Did he crack them open at the injector pump or just the injector?

The last 8N rolled off the assembly line in 1952 and never had a diesel option.

If fuel is indeed getting though the filters and to the injection pump then it sounds like the fuel shutoff (the thing that kills the engine when you stop the tractor) is stuck in the closed position. Without know the true model of the machine and whether it is a manual or solenoid fuel shutoff there is no way to advise.

Just making a WAG here but I will assume it is a later model with a solenoid controlled shutoff which means it could be wiring related or defective solenoid.

Sorry guys I confused this with my x’s who has a 1956 gas 8N. Mine is a 1966 Ford 4000 diesel. I took some pictures today to try to show you the sequence of the parts he bled
1st -fuel filter
2nd - injection pump
3rd - line at engine
It is a 4 cylinder as you can see
It cranks strong just will not fire.
thanks guys for teaching me the correct terminology. Farm girl who definitely don’t know much other than how to operate her.

My son in law (Richie) says it has a manual shut off for the fuel. Not a solenoid issue because the engine is cranking. Just will not fire.

There is no fuel coming from the injector pump.
