How about some pointers on removing the wet sleeves? They are pretty pricey online

Plenty of info on here. I would use the "Search" box in the upper RH corner of the page. I just searched "Liners" and there are lots of threads discussing various methods. Save a lot of typing.
Someone on here recently described making a puller with plates and a length of threaded rod. ("All-Thread" I think you guys call it?)

thank you for that info. i was able to find some ideas and made a crude puller that worked rather well and only cost me the price of some all thread. i do appreciate everyones help. now im just waiting on parts and gotta send the head out for machine work. if anyone can think of anything i need to pay attention to when reassembling this thing I'd gladly take any and all advice.

Thanks Again,
Jeff

The main thing I can think of if you aren't familiar with wet sleeved engines, is to be sure to clean the oring grooves thoroughly and also the upper land and bore in the block where the sleeve fits. When you get the new sleeves, dry fit them in the block without the orings. They should slide all the way down easily. Clamp it in place with a couple of bolts and washers. Then measure how high the outer land of the sleeve is above the block. Should be .001" to .004" above the surface of the block. Sometimes you might need to juggle the sleeves from one hole to another to get a good fit. Once the liner height is correct, install the orings and lubricate them with liquid soap, not oil, and install the liners.

Not sure what part of MO you are in but I bought a big bottle of lubricant for the sleeve seals from John Deere for my recent Yanmar diesel project. If you are in my area I'll be glad to give you some. Shoot me a PM if you are interested.

Nolands Machine in KC is the real deal when it comes to head work if you are in the area. They also fix a lot of cracked heads. They are downtown on Charlotte street.

Ditto what jd110 stated especially about cleaning o-ring grooves.

as far as puling them a bar that will catch the liner on the bottom, and not extend past the liner, (I had one turned on a lath with a lip on it, and a hole in the center, used a all thread, and a bar on top that was spaced above the block,

what I made was very similar to this,
Automotive or Tractor cylinder crank in sleeve puller

I had a plate turned to match the commercially available units for the bottom to pull the sleeve,
1225 OTC Sleeve Puller Plate

Sounds like we're not to far from each other. I've used nolands for head work on my automotives. However I already dropped off my head at a tractor machine shop in Clinton. I live in holden and work in kc

I'm just down the road from you. Let me know if you want any of the JD bottle-o-slime for your sleeves. Not necessary of course but I have to admit it sure works good.
