Here is the JD seal lube. I get **** when doing maintenance and figured following the manual couldn't hurt anything. I was actually pretty impressed with this stuff. Much slicker than soapy water.

Thanks TH. It's not imported down here (possibly because it's a chemical?) but maybe there is a similar product. Can you describe the make-up of it? Smell, feel, consistency?
I take it it's not just plain ol' dishwashing liquid?
The retro JD logo implies it's been around for a while. You guys get so much more than we can access. Grrr.
While you're there, I'm curious as to the function of that perforated wood-looking template hanging on the wall at the rear please? And is that a JD-branded line-trimmer??

To answer your questions, the JD Lube doesn't have much of an odor. It most definitely has soap in it but it is more than soapy water. The consistency is much thicker than soap and water and while it is slicker than snot it is also a little tacky. It is water soluble but it takes longer to break down that soapy water. I'm not sure what it is.
As for the template......it is a board template for stretching beaver pelts. The template is 1/4th of the board. Pelts vary in size so the largest possible ring is used for each pelt being careful not to stretch them too tight.
The weedeater is just some cheap unit I haven't used in years. Not a JD.

There are o'rings for coolant and o'rings for oil. Don't mix them up. Should avoid getting oil on any of the O'rings prior to final assembly.

Timbet I really appreciate you offering to let me use your soap but after doing some research and the consent from Jim I decided to just use dawn dish soap. I thank everyone for all of the advice so far. I got my parts in today and the sleeves went in rather easy. I hope to have it together or close tonight.

I haven't gotten it all back together but I have an issue with my temp sensor. I couldn't get it disconnected when taking the head off so I sniped it. I didn't realize unto jus now that it is hollow on the inside. I'm guessing it's ruined. Is there a way too replace the wire or what ever it is.
