Those 300 I6 motors are bulletproof. My Neighbor was coming home from the field pulling a haywagon. When he checked the oil the next morning, he found none. He had tore a hole in the pan, not sure when, but no oil spots in the driveway. It is a 10 minute drive home from his field. He changed the pan, filled her up, and ran it until the floor rotted thru and the seat legs were sitting on the frame. He bought a 03 250 with a 5.4. what a dog/ pos. plug troubles/coils/rust thru in the middle of the bed already/door bottoms rotted out, and finally the rear end cover rotted thru.

I have run an 81 f100 300 I6 2wd in the demolition derby, took second.

I ran an 80 f150 I6 4x4 in it 2 years ago-3rd because of the swiss cheese frame-more good quality engineering. Who thought it would be a good idea to cut several 3" holes in the frame of a pickup?

Built my log splitter around one.

I am more sold every day that I drive the 1980 F100 with a 82 300 cid inline 6 and the three speed manual with OD that I will look for a 300 cid based F150 instead of the F150 302 based truck deal that did not happen.

There is no way to know how many miles are on this replacement engine or when the 1980 engine was pulled or why.

A stange thing on the 1995 deal that the guy when back on his word to sell it. He mailed me postal money order and the bank called and confirmed it was valid and asked how I wanted my cash. Since we are looking for a church organ I told the teller just give me $100 bills in case we found one quickly and she said they were out. I thought she was joking. It turns out locally $100 bills are being pasted that will pass the marker pen test so I guess the banking system is scanning to remove these counterfeit $100 from the money supply.

Most likely I will go with an automatic just due to age and will face more knee and hip surgeries in the years ahead. I am sure the six with fuel injection will be really nice and for a truck that may set a lot the more simple the better. The fact this 300 is still in production down under points out it can do the job that calls for tough gas engines.

If I find F150 with a 300/auto with around 100K miles in a straight rust free body it will be hard to pass up. I was told this week a F150 can go places where a F250 might get stuck on soft ground because the I-Beam of the F150 will keep the front tires making contact better than a solid front axle like in a F250+.

The old twin I beams 4x4s make great off roaders. I have a 93 that stills sees its share of off road. While the 300 is a great motor the 302 is also a great motor. Just saying if I was in the market for an old Ford I would take either motor.

I agree based on what I have read.

In part I think having been around and driven so many inline 6's I like the sound. They are balanced so well when firing.

Actually the solid front axle will articulate more than the twin I beam. I've had both a 75 with the 300 I 6 solid front axle 4x4 would go anywhere. The reason I have my 87 now is it has more comforts working ax power steering power brakes. But back on topic once the twin I beam tire drops so much in a ditch or something the truck will stand on its nose. The solid front axle would keep all 4's on the ground.
