Kubota L5450
What kind of transmission/hydraulic fluid do all you L5450 owners use. Mine is a 1996 and of course the Kubota dealership is saying I should only use the Kubota UDT fluid which is around $85 for a 5 gallon bucket. I used the case hy- tran last time I changed the fluid but that stuff is way expensive and now hard to find since I moved. Is there a cheaper alternative that works without sacrificing protection? Thanks for any info you can provide.

Try Sam's for hydro fluid if you want the one of least expensive.

I use Walmart hyd fluid in my gear rigs, including the L5450 with EC hydraulic shuttle. Their Super tech Fluid has worked well, about $8.50/gal.

Thanks all. Went ahead with the super tech stuff from walmart. Everything seems to work fine but the hydraulic filter light has not gone out yet. Do you all know if that takes awhile to go out? Also, the l540 only has 1 hydraulic filter, right? It does not have an internal screen filter? The tractors either have one or the other depending on year, right?

The parts diagram shows a filter on the suction side with a center-mounted magnet. On my rigs the light may light on winter start-up but it goes out fairly soon. If it's on this time of year the level is low or there's a switch issue.
