I don't know whats going on but gas here in Cambridge was $2.39 Friday. The diesel is still $3.00 or so but the gas keeps coming down. We just had a new Sheetz station go in and they are keeping the price down for now. Travel 25 miles in any direction and the gas is $2.75 or there abouts.
What kind of prices are you guy's seeing in your area?

Don't get too used to it. We are evacuating the Gulf of Mexico oil platforms as I type this. Literally, I hear the chopper leaving from my office. We'll be out of hear by Tuesday and production shut down. We're first to react, about as far east as you can get in the Gulf. Rest of Gulf evacuating probably starting this evening or tomorrow morning. Don't hate us, we pay the same for gas as everyone else.

$2.65 to $2.75 Around Pensacola, Florida. If I could find it for $2.39 I would fill my bulk tank.

Any gas shortages around Pensacola/Mobile area you've heard of. I'll be flying into Fairhope Monday. I've got a full tank, some guys out here don't and have a 4-6 hour drive.

I forgot all about "Ernesto", been quiet so far this year. I guess I better fill all my cans up and save a little bit while I can. I don't think you'll have to worry about anyone "hating" you for getting out of there. I often wondered what kind of hurricane hit are the drilling rigs rated to withstand? Have you ever been on a rig that has sustained heavy damage? Anyhow, thanks for helping make the wheels go around.

The platform I'm currently on is sister to Shell's Mars platform. The Mars facility had the drilling rig toppled off of it and into the Gulf during Katrina, you may have seen something on it on Discovery or one of those channels.

The one I'm on was damaged pretty bad by Ivan 2 years ago. The rig itself took 2 months to repair, production facilities were down about a month. The only one I've ever ridden out was Danny in 1997 on a jack-up rig. We were about 100 miles west of where it passed.

The platform I am on actually floats in 3200' of water and is attached to the seafloor by tendons, large pipes is what they are. The platform is held in place by ballasting-pumping water in and out of platform columns. Supposedly this place can withstand a 100 year storm. I guess I believe it if it's still here after Katrina and Ivan. You will not believe the damage a major storm can do. I'll try to post a couple of pictures.

The first picture is the rig package where I'm at. The rig package skids on large beams using hydraulic cylinders, and is held in place by large clamps, which have since been modified to 2" thick welded plates after Ivan skidded the rig 40' west on the platform. Over a million pounds drug 40'. steel on steel.

Second picture is a jack-up destroyed by Ivan. PM me and I have more if your interested.

There is a fellow at work who has bet about 25 people that gasoline will be $2.00 per gallon by November. If he's wrong, he will owe a lot of people a lot of crab legs!

Still $2.39 here in town, $2.36 with prepaid Wally card. We have an Exxon station in town that is stuck on $2.94 for the last week. The stations all around him are $2.39-$2.42 and this Exxon seems oblivious to the competition. It's a fairly big station with 10-12-pumps and a little Wendy's in there as well. Every now and then you see some poor elderly person in there getting gas and a good 50+ cent clipping. I guess they must have Exxon cards and feel a sense of loyalty to them, or, they are not paying attention.
Gotta watch those rascals, they like to play games with those prices!

August 29th, and gas prices are as low as they've been in a year. Filled the wifes car last night at $2.49.9. 28 days ago, we paid $3.19.9.

Diesel is $2.69.9, off-road is $2.57 at the pump. Bulk delivered to farm is cheaper, but I don't know todays price.

Probably $5 by the weekend now that I bragged on how "cheap" it is.

We're still getting the greedy shaft in NY. Gas is still $2.89 and up. Diesel is $3.14 as of today. I think NY is rebuilding the Alaskan pipeline through higher prices and with Labor day next week the price will probably go up again.
