Way back when the dinosaurs roamed the earth, they put clover in grass seed. Otherwise, it's a green desert, not much good for any insect to live in. Only need it if you need to play on it, drive on it or need a pathway to walk without getting ticks. Should not be necessary for "show".

Clover is still mixed in pasture seed for livestock. Clover is great for livestock. If you're talking about a lawn, you're in wrong thread.

I mow my tall fescue lawn at 3" or so, and its full of insects. Birds roam through it bugging all day, and while fun to watch they aren't as entertaining as watching chickens or guineas.
When we bought this property it was a windswept rolling farmer's field that was rode hard and put away wet. We planted thousands of trees rebuilding wide fence rows and began the rebuild process on most of the rest of it. I remember trying to show my son how to catch night crawlers with a flashlight like I used to do as a kid, and there weren't any. Zero. That was a wake up call for me that first year, and now my garden areas are much better with natural compost and nutrients. Even my lawn is full of worms now, after years of mowing grass clippings and most leaves, left to compost back into the soil. I do use fertilizer and some sprays, but try to keep it all in check to keep a relatively healthy and nutrient rich property. :thumbsup:

Yep clover is great. Some clovers give some horses clover slobbers which is not deadly but just weird to see. In any event I am specifically not trying to kill the clover in the pasture. 24D generally just knocks it back a bit so I am ok there. Just need to keep the rest of the weeds at bay.
