This morning some guy who drives for a living (hotshot driver?) posted a photo of his dash display where his 2016 F150 with the 2.7 Ecoboost just turned over 312,000 miles. Talk about living in your truck..............

There are a couple things that aggravate me about the 19F150 that I have. One is the auto shut off for the engine. When you come to a. Stop, the motor. Shuts off until you step on the gas again. I disabled it by unplugging a small white plug in thing under the dash, but have to reconnect it if I'm towing something otherwise the trailer breaks won't work. Not a big deal ..just a nuisance. The other thing that is really annoying is the auto locks for the doors and tailgate. As soon as you start rolling, they all lock. I can't count how many times I have gotten out of the truck and gone to the tailgate to get in the bed..only to have it locked and have to go back to the door and hit unlock... Friggin ridiculous ...and ford says it can't be disabled at the dealership. ..I call BS

I placed an order for my 2016 F150 when I did because I'd read that the next year that auto start-stop feature would be standard on all the new trucks. Mine doesn't have it. That, plus I did not want to be a beta tester for the new 10 speed transmission coming in 2017.

The auto door/tailgate lock doesn't bother me nearly as much as the a/c always setting itself to "recirculate" whenever I push the a/c button. Why would I want to breathe recycled air when I live in the outback where the air is pristine? I hate the extra step of having to push the recirculate button each time to reset to outside air.

They all have their quirks! I still love my truck because of the power, economy and most important, trouble free since I bought it.

The new Ram is still a Ram, I would stay Ford and go EB.
I'm on my second 2.7 truck....and still enamored! :D

My love affair started one chilly March day back in 2015. My employer asked me to put some miles on a brand new truck, to ready it for service. Sure, sign me up! Said truck was a brand new aluminum body F150 with the brand new 2.7EB engine, crewcab 4x4 Lariat trim. Well, not knowing much about it, I thought there was some mistake with the engine size....2.7L V6 in a full size PU? What a joke! This thing will probably be a slug! Ford has lost their mind! (My last full size truck was an '88 F150 5.0L V8, had a few Rangers, and a few Honda Ridgelines in between).

Mapped out a trip through SE Ohio hill country for a weekend, worth about 500 miles. As I prepared to take the truck home that Friday eve prior, I gave it the once over....very impressive rig! Then I drove it. OMG. Nearly started off with a rear end accident, as I was not prepared for how this "little V6" would handle a 5000lb truck. I honestly don't think I stopped giggling for about 30 minutes! Felt more like a Mustang than a truck! Oh, and then I found the "Sport Mode" setting.....

Fast forward, after the weekend trip, I was hooked. I was driving a new ('16) Honda Odyssey Elite at the time, a pretty nice ride....which was dynamically outclassed in every way by a half ton 4x4 PU! Just Wow. Dumped the Honda, found a '15 F150 XLT crewcab 4x4 with the 2.7EB. Yes! Three year lease, put about 45K on it. Zero issues. Zero. Brand new design, brand new engine, ZERO issues. Ford hit a home run with this truck.

More fast forward, lease is up spring of '18, so even though I'm pretty sure I want another 2.7 F150, the new RAM is out, getting good reviews, so I owe it to myself to give it a look, as I'm not brand loyal beyond a good product. While the interior of the RAM was high quality (material, F&F), I didn't care for the layout, and the std V6 was a complete joke compared to the V6 EB F150.

So, lease #2 for a 2.7EB F150 was consumated, another crewcab XLT 4x4. Currently sitting at 21K zero issue miles, averaging 22-24mpg (not towing), and 16-18 towing my BX on a tandem flatbed(about 5K).

Yeah, I'm a big fan of these trucks. It's what I will drive until someone builds something better, which hasn't happened yet, IMO. For me, the 2.7 offers the best of everything....power, economy, refinement, & reliability, with a really nice truck wrapped around it.

That's my story, YMMV. :)

I was wondering about the longevity of these modern turbo'ed engines where they squeeze a lot of HP out of relatively small displacement. You'd think something would have to give with them being pushed that hard.

I also still have a hard time wrapping my head around a 4 cyl engine in a truck...I keep having bad flashbacks to those gawd-awful 80s-90s vintage tacomas that couldn't get out of their own way going downhill with a tailwind.

How much of this crap is government mandated? I know auto door locks have been around since the 90s. I had a mid-90s Chevy Beretta that had them...what was really a PITA is that since the car was manual, they didn't lock until you got up to ~5mph, but didn't unlock when you stopped (unlike ones with automatics that unlock when you put them in park). Very annoying if you wanted to stop and let someone out. I tried disabling it, but it screwed up something else by doing so, forget what. The fact that the dealers "can't" (won't) disable it tells me they're not allowed to.

Why would a truck need a tailgate lock, especially one that locks automatically. Doesn't make any sense to me.

The auto shutoff does sound like it would be really annoying. Is there a way to shut that "feature" off for, say those times you're sitting parked but want to have the heat running?

Didn't know about the A/C quirk, but I live in northern New England where you might use it once every couple of years.

There is the option to disable auto-lock in your menu-settings screen. It even tells you how to do it in the owners manual. It's one of the first things I turn off....along with the "dingle-bell" for the seatbelt. As I'm driving around trails, I usually don't wear the belt, so makes for a better off-road experience.

Also, auto-stop can also be canceled by the button up by the hazard switch. Make that part of your start-up routine, like pushing the start button, it becomes second nature. I only use it in areas with long stop lights.

Clearly the days of worrying about turbo or super charged engines is over. The engines are built for the stresses. After all we don't get all concerned about diesel engine internal stresses and they run way higher pressures. My biggest surprise about my 3.5 Ecoboost is how physically big the engine is. As nearly as I can tell, the 2.7, 3.5 and 5.0 engines are very similar in weight.

Negative on the menu screen for the door locks. I think it痴 only on the Platinum and King Ranch models in 19. Mine is a XLT and there is no option to do it on the screen. Pushing that button on the dash every time I start the truck to disable the auto shut off... is about as convent as checking the torque on the lug nuts every time I drive the truck. ...

I would double check your manual....my '18 XLT has the option. Seems like an odd thing to change on a carry over model.
