I doubt it will cause any damage from gravity. Steel is pretty tough and you are not going to use it under load, just as a safety device to prevent possible crushing if you have to get under the lift arms. Just remember, as someone else mentioned, with the arms up and an implement on it, the center of gravity will be higher and you could tip the tractor if you winch on a hill or angle. ;)

As for protective coatings inside the angle iron, maybe some bed liner in a spray can? Or a sleeve of old inner tube rubber? Hey, how about a fat bicycle tire inner tube?

I like the coating idea. Thanks.

I took a few pictures of the completed installation. The support brackets have not been painted yet, I was too busy using them while working on the receiver. I do think the support brackets are the best part of the project. I can use them when doing many kinds or work on the PT. Like greasing the mower spindles on the finish mower.

My thanks to all the comments and suggestions. The projects turn out so much better with input from many people. The support brackets are just one example. This is something I would not have done without the suggestions from here, yet it is the best part of the project.

I made one more change. I welded a D ring to the hook (not the tractor mounted 2 inch receiver. I will use this to connect my hold down ratcheting straps to during machine transport. See attached pictures.

Good idea. We have had lots of rain and snow and the ground is very wet.

Isn't it nice to have friends that urge you to get your tractor stuck and take pictures of your misfortune just for their own personal gratification? :D

Brings back schoolyard memories of metal railings and frozen tongues...

DON'T GIVE INTO THE PEER PRESSURE!

Oh, and they say a little warm water will get your tongue off, too... :)

All the best,

Peter

I have been stuck many times on my property. I have a couple of acres (of the 10 total) that are swamp a lot of the year. The trouble is that when I get stuck I go into Turbo Mode getting unstuck. Turbo Mode does not include walking back to the house and getting my camera. After getting the Power Trac, I have been building bridges and other ways of getting through the swamp. I rarely get stuck now, but the memories linger. The PT wiggle (left and right steering while applying power) once learned was a great help.

Today I drove through the property, but was not able to get stuck :D. It was slippery in places and I did not actually drive into the creek. To test my receiver, I tied a strap to a tree and put the other end over the hook. I backed up and put full wheel torque on it. No movement or bending of the receiver. Then I moved forward 2 feet and then backward fast to tighten the strap. Again it worked fine. I think that is enough of a test.
