$20 lawn tractor?

I recently went to a school equipment auction.I saw this 3 cylinder diesel tractor. I wanted the engine so I can possibly put it in my Cub Cadet 1450.So I bid $20. and I won it. After a couple of hours we have it running,so we fix a couple of flat tires and start cutting grass and chopping leaves up.So now I don't want to break it up for the engine but I don't know what to do with it. Sure is fun driving it around. Hydrostatic drive with mechanical brakes which are frozen up(cables have to be cleaned up)I figured I post some pictures so you can enjoy.

Looks like you got a great deal. If it were mine, and I wanted a different mower, I'd stick it on ebay, and then go buy the mower I wanted with the money I got from the ebay sale. Toro Groundsmaster's sell pretty high on ebay. Here are two current auctions for similar machines, but I don't know how new/old yours is in comparison, relative condition, etc.

Actually, that one machine from seller "engineman1954" is a relisting, as it never met reserve in the first auction. The first auction closed at $1928 without the reserve being met, so taking $1900 for a machine in similar working and cosmetic condition would probably not be a problem. Here is the first auction:

aardvark is right in that Toro Groundmasters are desireable machines. It would be worth putting a hundred or two into fixing it up and reselling it for around $2000-2500. I wish I was at that auction. /forums/images/graemlins/frown.gif

The local parks department uses those around here. They have snow blowers and leaf blowers besides the mower decks. Universtiy of Notre Dame has a few, too. They have really big ones, also. I've always liked those machines.

You're not going to believe this but there were three of them that sold that dayThe first went for $60.00.The second went for $40.00. The first had power steering but lots of parts were missing.the second one had no anti freeze in it and the engine looked real bad. The one I got had grass growing out of the seat
but had no leaks (oil or anti freeze)but looked like ****, also I had an "in" with the head mechanic.You see my wife is his boss.
