Hi everybody! I'm preparing for a 200 hr service on my B2920. I did performed the 50 hr service with no problems at all. In fact it was much easier than expected.

My question is, Kubota says to replace the inner air filter. Why? I have carefully blown out the outer air filter three or four times with 25 psi and intend on replacing it at the two hundred hour mark. But I'm not sure why the manual says replace the inner as well. I have no problem mechanically or financially following the maintenance schedule, so I will replace the inner. The inner looks brand new. Is there some kind of super secret dust attracting coating or something on it that wears away that I can't see? Or does it fail or wear out in another way?

I'm by no means complaining, so please don't read into that. Just trying to learn. :)

Just for the record, the tractor has been outstanding.

A good portion of my tractor's time has been snow blowing - - not a lick of dust anywhere. Like you, I clean the outer filter with compressed air and the inner one looks new . . . I'd be tempted to replace the inner only "on condition", unless it's really cheap, and somehow I doubt that'll be the case.

My outer has been dirty to very dirty. It is the original (fall of 2011). The tractor accumulated 26 hours over almost two years before I bought it. Now I am getting close to the 200 hour mark.

I just looked up the price. It is just under fifty bucks for the inner filter. I don't consider that cheap. Now I'm really curious.

I am not a mechanic by any means but I also noticed that the inner air filter was pretty much like new when I last changed the outer air filter at 135 hours. The inner air filter looks more like a permenant air filter (made of some type of plastic or something) so it likely does not have to be changed unless it appears worn out or dirty. I agree that it is hard to justify buying a new one to replace one that looks brand new.

Your instincts are right, there's no reason to replace it unless you feel a need to transfer funds from you to the folks at Kubota who take all donations offered.

Don't forget to wash your filter fuel at 200 hours with kerosene.

My B2620 has 500 hours and is 5 years old. I change the outer filter every year, and blow it out regularly. The inner has never been changed-a mechanic at the dealership told me to change it if it looked dirty or frayed.

My Toro ZTR has the same style air filter. I did change that once, it was becoming frayed. That was with around 600 hours on the mower.
