I own a 2004 TC-40-DA model that I bought brand new. Recently the glow plugs are not being activated when I turn on the key switch. Until now I would turn on the key and wait for the glow plug icon light turn off in the dash to start it. Now, if I turn on the key, the light does not come on. It's not just a bulb, because I tried starting it on a cold day and it started hard. I think this means that there is an issue in the glow plug circuit. Has anyone had this ever happen with their machine? I have no books on the tractor so looking for suggestions on things to check. I'm guessing there might be a relay in the circuit that times the duration of the glow plug circuit. Any help would be appreciated.

Sorry guys, I did a search on this issue and found a lot of info on the same problem with different model new holland tractors. I will have to break out my test light and have at it.

I have the same tractor about the same vintage - and a few years ago I had the same problem. I diagnosed it to the glow plug relay - and got a new one, plugged it in, and it's been good since then!
An easy fix - and I hope yours is easy too!

Yes, check the glow plug relay. I had to replace mine too, though with mine the light stayed on all the time. The hardest part was removing the side panel of the console to the right of the steering wheel to get access to the relays.

Did you guys get your relay from New Holland? I called the nearest NH dealer and they wanted $149.00 for it. Is it me, or is that just a crazy price? Knock offs are available for $18. Appreciate your thoughts on this.

Dont just throw parts at it. Start off by checking fuses then checking for power at the first glow plug. Tractors and equipment in general tend to get really grungy behind pannels that cover things like electrical components. The TC40 definitely suffers from this.

With this being said I also had to change out my glow plug relay and shortly after the light failed. I still hear the click from the glow plug relay turning off and they still work.

Just dont go replacing parts because past practice..test the system/ components
