2005-2010 Duramax diesels & rust

Speaking of 2005-2010 Duramax Diesels, I found this one about 100 miles away.

28 Chevy Silverado Dump Duramax Diesel - cars & trucks - by owner...

I like it, but it’s not exactly what I want and its a little out of my price range, but I don’t know if seller wants to come down a few grand. I really didn’t want a dump body, but Im sure I could find a lot of uses (was thinking about a big deck over dump trailer, so this would save me that expenditure, although its smaller)
Anyway, asking $18,900 without plow. Need plow, too. BOOM budget blown sky high....
Also, being an 08 it has the dreaded DPF.
Does anyone know about the GM DPF system? Was it better than Fords DPF? The DPFs on my Fords are pretty bad.
I have zero experience with GM DPFs

Thoughts?
My 08 DPF has had one sensor changed. Also had the thermostats replaced at that time. The down pipe was replaced early on under warranty because the regen would stink the cab up.

I live in pa, And purchased a new 2017 Chevy 3500hd from upstate New York. When I got the truck delivered I seen it had some kind of hard like coating on it , not the normal Gm type wax coating. So I called the dealer and asked them if they put some kind of undercoating on the truck. Since up state New York getS bad winters all trucks get the undercoating from the dealer automatically. Let me tell you they sprayed everything. Shocks, into the engine bay the air dam from the engine they pretty much covered every square inch. Overall it痴 been a few years and 40,000 miles later but have zero rust so far. I never did find out what they used. On my 02 DuraMax I used fluid film which worked great , But also Peeled the waxy coating off the the frame. so by the time I sold it it was down to bare metal and I had to make sure to keep fluid film on it at all times. I had a 02,05,13,15,17 My 02 with 145,000 had some rust issues on the rocker and the extended cab door at the bottom. Other trucks zero issues with rust but did not have high mileage on them. My 17 at this point has been My favorite truck. Hoping to keep long term, so my wife doesn稚 leave me.

I have a buddy with a stock 08 with the factory dpf, and has 215,000 miles on the truck. As far as I know he never had to replace or do anything to it. I do remember him saying it smelled when in regen, but my 17 smells in regen to. Another buddy has a 09 with 500,000 plus miles on it and he had an issue early on and deleted it. I think most people keep them stock Intel they have an issues then delete them. Overall the DuraMax is a great engine. Good luck

Always annoyed me when I go on a short trip, only to smell the thing having gone into regen (08) when stopped. It would have been nice to be able to delay that until your next longer trip. How much fuel does a 6.6, 08 use, to do it's regen anyway?

Great question. I know my 08 F-350 gets 10-12 around town. I would assume the regens are the culprit.

Dunno how much actual fuel gets pumped out of the 9th injector but my 2019 DMax shows about 10-11 mpg when it's in regen. I normally get around 16/17 in mixed driving.

Always seems like the mpg would drop from 16 mpg per tank to 15 or something. Haven't really noticed lately

With such a small tank and large fuel appetite, my 6.6 has often hovered on fumes. Curious if the regen, might well drink my last precious fuel, before I can get to a station or home. So far, I have never run out.

I try to never let the fuel levels in any of my vehicles get below 1/2 tank due to the pumps being in the tanks. No always possible but I try to keep it that way..
