No sweat Chuck! it's good to get everyone's input anyhoo. When it comes down to cost for the average owner, I agree, It's best to use the CC hydrostat oil. It's not that much more than buying mobil-1 (or others). However, it is nice to know what it is, should you need an alternative, and to know it's nothing super rare or special.

( So the transaxle oil in your 3K series is red in color? The 2005's use clear/motor oil color trans oil. Like I say, all the new 2005, 2K and 3K have hydro-gear hydrostatic drives on them. Hydro-gear almost exclusively uses 50wt motor oils. Some of the pre 2005 2 & 3K series cubs had peerless hydro units (not sure which model years). Peerless may use an ATF looking trans oil, not sure. Never owned one. More viscous motor oils are typically used when the hydro drive & differential share the same lube, like most any lawn or garden tractor these days. Tuff-torq units (JD, simplicity, others) use 10w-30. )

No, my 3000 uses the new Drive System Fluid Plus, Synthetic Blend 737-3121. It is not reddish in color. The old Hy-Tran, used in the 1450, was reddish colored and was definitely not a heavy weight. The transmission and differential shared the same oil in the 1450.

Hi Bob, that is the same thing my 3240 uses, 737-3120 for quart and 737-3121 for gallon size. I don't remember what color it is though. I'll find out this weekend though /forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif

Seems like there is a lot of confusion about the type of oil to use. I thought I finally figured out what mine used based on the manual, and stopped a local dealer to pick some up. He told me they don't make the stuff any more and to just use 20W50 motor oil... I was still a bit skeptical, so I called the dealer where I bought the tractor, a little farther from home, and the lady I spoke to verified what the first dealer had said. Then I had a question about a part I had ordered and she transfered me to the owner. Just to double check, I mentioned the oil thing to him and he asked me to hold on while he covered the phone with his hand and yelled at the lady for giving me false information! I think his exact words were, if I put 20W50 in the tranny on my CC3240 "you'll be hating life" or something like that... So, I'll be stopping by tomorrow to pick up my choke cable and a 6 or 7 quarts of the "Cub Cadet Drive System Fluid Plus" - part number 737-3120 - quart and 737-3121 for gallon.

My best advise is if you are not absolutely sure, check your manual, and double check with a reliable dealer. I'll be calling the first dealer I talked to set him straight as well. I'd hate to see false information cause someone to hate life /forums/images/graemlins/ooo.gif

Sorry for the long post, just wanted to make sure that info got out there!!

I hear you about the trans lube. For the few times you need to drain/add, it's best to just use the CC stuff. The sad thing is, you can almost guarantee that if you asked 10 dealers what you can use, you will get almost 10 different answers /forums/images/graemlins/confused.gif /forums/images/graemlins/tongue.gif
Thanks!

Getting ready for my first oil change, I have the cub hydro-trans fluid (2 gals) and complete cub filter package. I'm looking at full synthetic oils and have been using Quaker State full syn (10W-30)in my 94 f-150 truck for 6 oil changes now. In the independant oil test's I've seen it was middle of the pack in the test's. What do you guys think of using it for engine oil in the CUB. Gt2544
Thanks Todd

Todd I think the QS synth 10w-30 would be a great oil for your 2544. QS products are excellent. However, keep in mind that the only true 100% synthetic oils are mobil-1, amsoil, royal purple racing series . The rest are highly refined mineral oils that companies are allowed to call 'synthetic'.
