2005 TC29DA arrived with bad fuel

Firemanpat: If you bought a NEW $15,000 brand x printing press from a brand x dealer and it arrived with malfunctioning control boxes, leaking lines and the drum was dented, I think you might feel differently about this.

NEW from a dealer means new, not as-is. If it were sold as slightly used, with dents and leaks and broken switches fully disclosed to the buyer, then I would agree with the comments from the seller that that was part of the "good price" he got.

Hiding material defects is the main issue here. It was advertised as new.

What about a NEW car? Should you be upset if you get it home and find the tranny leaking, the headlight switch doesn't work and one of the rims is bent?
The dealer says "sorry-you got it cheap" so all these problems are yours to fix.

you get what you pay for. any way you look at it. you want to get a low price, expect low quality. you want preimium quality, expect to pay a premium price. If I got a 200,000.00 machine from another dealer for 150,000.00 yes I would expect to have to do some work on it. If I paid 200,000.00 for a 200,000.00 machine no I would not expect to have to work on it. And after the sale is done Im not gonna ask for a hat, tshirt, oil change or any other give me. If they give it, fine. If I want it it will be brought up in the orriginal deal.

So if you saved a few grand buying a brand new Chevy/Ford/Dodge/Toyota/Etc pickup at dealer "A" over dealer "B", you'd be ok with putting new brakes and tires on it? :D

Fireman,

Your missing one very big detail. Zipper bought the tractor as a "new" tractor from a certified "New Holland Dealership", who is bound by certain obligations to maintain that dealership. One of which is to make sure that a new tractor is free of noticable defects or neglect and to make sure that a pre-sale inspection is done. I find it hard to believe that if you went out shopping for a truck you wouldn't price around and go to an out of town dealership if it ment saving 3-5k. I also think you would expect the "new" truck to be just that. If he bought it "used" or from an individual, I would agree with your statement.

By the way, I use our local lumber yard, support small business, and don't shop Walmart. I also have to feed my kids as well just like my dealer and wouldn't feel bad about looking for the best price on a very big ticket item.

Your missing the point firemanpat. I'm paying to purchase a "NEW New Holland TC29." They set the minimum price they would take for the tractor. I simpy made the decision, "Hey you know what, for that price that is a good deal on that NEW tractor, so I bought it. A New Holland is supposed to be a "premium quality" product. (I never asked for any hats or other gimme's)

I personally wouldn't pay that for some of these off brand import tractors. I don't know much about them but I wouldn't expect the same quality as I do from New Holland, John Deere, Kubota, etc. As a consumer you would expect that a "NEW" tractor would arrive in full running condition.

The funny part of this is if Ewald Tractor had changed the fuel filter, put in one gallon of diesel and checked things out I would have been the happiest S.O.B. this side of the Mississippi. For less than probably $25 I would now be singing their praises rather than telling this story. Now they want nothing to do with me. But see I am 950 miles away so they think they can get away with it. If I lived in San Antonio this tractor would be parked on their front door.

As it stands my local dealership has been very helpful and I have a two year warranty so everything should be okay.

That web site highlighted in a previous response is the same Ewald tractor that I bought mine from in Seguin, Texas near San Antonio. When I bought my tractor they had about 4 other NEW New Holland tractors listed as well. They stated that the tractors were being sold on eBay because they were trying to meet a New Holland month end sales quota.

I haven't seen any other tractors for sale by this company on eBay but I haven't been looking as much since I am not looking to buy a tractor anymore. I heard rumor through TBN that Ewald tractor might be getting out of carrying New Holland and they seem to be mostly advertising Kubota on their web site. Ironically, I gave them a positive feedback on eBay because after I got the tractor I was so happy that I put in the feedback before I had much of a chance to work with the tractor

I want to ask what I think is a very pertinent question. How many hours did the tractor have when you took delivery?

The tractor is brand new with less that 5 hours on it

Its this an established dealer on E Bay? I tried several variations of a search on ebay of the the name but came up bland. I'm curious what other buys have for feedback.
Al
I've seen auctions by Ewald on eBay, the seller uses a different seller name, but lists Ewald as his business name. I may Google "Ewald Tractor" to see what I find.

Sorry. I didn't catch that.

It appears to me that the issue here is different people defining "new" in different ways. This unit is certainly not a used unit, by the normally accepted definition of used. The unit has never been sold, so it has full factory warranty. It has only 5 hours, and that is certainly not unheard of on a new unit. New tractors get a few hours from being run to load, and unload for shipment, being serviced and checked, being moved around the lot, and even from other customers test driving. Five hours on a unit that was disclosed to have been on the lot since September of 2005 is certainly within reason, and does not mean that the unit is not new.

As to whether the unit should have been serviced, yes it should have been, and quite possibly was, when it was first received from the factory. Should it have been delivered with the problems it had, no, it shouldn't. Should the selling dealer have paid someone else to service it, as to that I won't speak, since that is between that dealer and his conscience.

Don't forget, you bought this tractor thousands of dollars cheaper than the next lowest quote you mentioned. Warranty covered the leaking hoses, and the other warrantable repairs, and you had to pay for the fuel problem. Even after that cost, and the cost of shipping, you are still several thousand dollars ahead. Perhaps you should quit crying, realize that even with a slight bit of aggravation you got a **** of a deal, and go do something useful with your new tractor, instead of crying about what a raw deal you got. From where I sit it looks like you really don't know how good a deal it actually was.
