I am not an engineer or anything close but the way that crack is it almost looks like a stress crack from possibly bouncing the front end. Did you happen to drop the left front wheel into a hole with a lot of weight up front (do you have a loader?)? Maybe some of the smart people on here will have a better idea but this crack to me looks like a strong force caused it more so then it being a poor casting.
How did they come up with a $14k bill to repair this? On my 7710 the engine was replaced with a short block, turbo replaced, oil pump replaced and pto work done and that bill was $13k with over 60 hours of labor on a tractor much larger then yours. $14k seems like either a mis-communication or someone is trying to buy his daughter a show pony for Christmas.
