Since the GM dealer in town closed in 2008 there are few around here. Starting to see a few fords again. Haven't seen many new since the Ford dealer closed around 2005. Probably still Chevy, Dodge, Ford and Toyota last.

My friend and his wife have been driving Toyota cars since the '80's. Not a big surprise that he went with a Tundra.

Big deal here is they are made in Indiana. It used to be GM 15 years ago but the loyalty is now where the jobs are at.

A friend of mine has a 2005 extra cab 2500 with the 6.0 and he pulls a 7,500lb camper around the East Coast. He loves the truck but it is a gas hog. He says the truck gets around 7mpg at 65 mph while towing his camper.

I just purchased a Tundra a few months ago after I sold my 2007 Dodge 5.9 Cummins. The Tundra has suprised me with it's power. It is far superior to my old 2001 Silverado with the 5.3 and 3.73 gears. I am a beliver in the Tundra. I'm not saying it is the best truck in the world but it is worthy of your consideration. The Tundra isn't a diesel but it does well for a gas engine.

What kind of trailer weight can a Tundra handle?

My 2010 is rated to tow 10,400lbs. My payload capacity is around 1,500lbs so a 8,000lb trailer should add 800-1,000 pounds of tongue weight to the pickup.

What kind of trailer weight can a Tundra handle?

The 1/2 tons have gotten so much better in the last few years that they have surpassed the gas 3/4 ton market. This all started in about 2004 with the first real import player in the truck market, the Nissan Titan. It had 317HP and 385FT TQ and a tow capacity of 9,500#. Ford quickly followed and then came the Toyota Tundra. It was the first one playing with the magical 10,000# tow capacity. GM and Dodge are now at that point also but this left trucks like the Ram 3/4 ton with the Hemi, the Ford Superduty with the 5.4L, and the GM with the 6.0L behind.

On the used market they can be a good buy but in reality the new 1/2 tons are about equal or even a little better then the small block 3/4 gassers made just 7-10 years ago.

Interesting. I will have to look into these more. If anybody finds a truck online located around Illinois for a good deal please post a link. I would like to have 10K capabilities...

Thanks

I have a 2004 2500 6.0 w/ 4.10 and 70k. 11mpg with lots of dirt road miles.

The 6.0 with 4.10 rear end in a 3/4 ton truck is a very good combo. If you need more power than that, you also need a heavier truck than a 3/4 ton IMO.
