Thankyou Studor.....................:)..........I used 2 narrow alligator clips on some old extension cord insulated wire.. Yes, the switch would definitely last longer if it was shorter.

Have a restful evening.........

this past week I was looking for similar switches for a project at work. McMasterCarr has one switch that is nearly identical. with leads coming out the back. sorry I don't have access at this time to the info but you may look for a car door light switch too...

A car door light switch, although probably a good size, would be the wrong switch configuration. Car door switches complete the circuit when the plunger is released to turn on the dome light. They open the circuit to turn off the light when fully depressed. This is just the opposite of what you need for a clutch safety switch.

I think a clutch safety switch off a late 80's toyota pickup might work. There are usually plenty of these in wrecking yards as there were so many sold. I havn't had to replace mine yet, so havn't looked at the particulars, but I think it gets pushed and closes the circuit when the clutch pedal is fully depressed just like the tractor does. I have an 88 truck and I will check that this is indeed the case. If so, you should be able to get one of these in a wrecking yard for a few bucks.

The real issue with the clutch safety switch is the design itself. Instead of the clutch pedal acting directly on the switch plunger, it should do so through a compression spring so that there is a margin of error in travel distance to prevent damage to the switch. This is easy enough to do by moving the switch and adding a small compression spring, or you can go a step further and re-configure the whole arrangement to use a pull switch (like the brake light switch) that is activated by an expension spring, again protecting the switch.
