Maybe it's me but the front tires look like they may be facing the wrong direction (backwards)

That model tractor is a good machine. The loader works well and the control is very well placed. We had the TC40 and the turtle/rabbit switch on the loader control is a definite plus.

As for the condition, can't go by pictures ... you need to examine that in person and test it out. If it work well the broken front grill does not keep it from functioning - our was beat up also.

Big thing is, make sure the hydraulics work right and the motor does not have any smoking problems.

The safety switches are a common problem with those tractors developing "starting" problems ... there are several switches. There is a thread on here that explains how to install a relay to bypass those switches and make it so you can start it with the key even though the switches go bad.

Let me know what you find out. Im kind of curious what the situation was that I walked away from. Still feel like I should have just taken the risk.

capt redbeard you dodged a bullet! i went out there today, looked at it and the branch manager sent the service manager out to start it for me since you have to jump the starter, it sounds great! so then he tells me there are 3 problems. i say what are they? (we knew about the leaking bucket cylinder and the starter ,, ),,, he says the 4x4 wont engage , and says he thinks its because the linkage needs adjusting. so i say i will buy this tractor right now if you can show me the 4x4 working. they take it in the shop the mechanic puts it up on jack stands works on things underneath for 20 min or so then calls the manager over and tells him the 4x4 stuff has been removed from the front end!

Dang! Could you negotiate that into the price (the 4x4 repair)?

Did you also check to make sure the tractor had good power throughout the ranges, had good working hydraulics, and these PTO worked properly?

Ha, thats crazy!!! I always have to remind myself that if something is at a low price and sits for more than a week, then something is definitely wrong with it (just gotta convince my tractor fever to calm down).
Thanks for following up. Sorry you didn稚 catch a deal on it. Tractors come and tractors go.

May I ask: if you are looking at the Tc45da, what else are you considering? Sounds like we may be looking for the same class of tractor.

yes im looking for a 4x4 around 35-40hp with over 1500 loader lift (at the pins) im looking at a branson now ,im about to start a new post to ask about it its a turbo ,that kind of scares me. but im not going to be able to afford a hydro i guess ,but my current tractor is a 1963 ford with a reverser and fel still going strong but i want something from this century at least. drove a 2005 41 hp mahindra today and it shook like crazy while it was lifting the bucket., plus it did not want to reverse directions really well (grinded a little and tried to pop out of gear on reverser/shuttle plus im only 5'10" and i had to bend my legs at 90degrees to do the pedals ,, not for me! but i had to try it was only $8000. here local.

I have two new holland tractors, 2008 TC40 with 680 hrs and a 2002 TC35DA with 68 hrs just bought it locked in a barn for years.
I really researched the TC40 before I bought it new in 2008 I mean I did my research and drove every other brand from dealers close to me. Nothing came close to the New Holland The New Holland had far the best comfort cab area wide/open and the shuttle shift up by the steering wheel out of the way, just cant beat it. Three range transmission, more lift capacity, great visibility looking down the hood, larger tire sizes and many other options I liked. The TC 40 has 680 hrs with NOTHING to mention as going wrong. I would seriously put the older units against any manufacture out there, dont no about newer ones but the Boomers and TCs are bullet proof if taken care of.
