To agree with another poster, I've absolutely never said "gee, I wish I didn't have four wheel drive", but I've certainly said "I wish this **** truck was 4X4" before!

this is why I only buy 4x4, I don't need it probably 95% or the time, but that other 5% will really p!55 you off if you don't have it.

Every wheeled vehicle I own is 4x4. Even my Volvo XC90 is 4x4.

Exactly. For basically 50 years most manufacturers did make 4X2 pickups with low range. All you had to do was not get out and twist the manual front locks in. For nearly 20 years of boating, I guarantee you that I put far less stress on transmissions and clutches by using low range when pulling my boats out of the water. Unless the ramp was wet I didn't need four wheel drive, but I sure needed low range

You're correct, but just as a word of caution, your owners manual will stress that you not run the truck in 4-lo without engaging the front axle for the reason I posted before. ;)

Everybody needs at least one 4x4. There's 9 just around this place, some are for work and other are custom built for play. There's nothing better on a Sat night then a good 4X4, a cold ML and plenty of Mud. (To me anyway)

It's true that we don't get much snow down here ether (not complaining) but at least in my part of the world we have red clay and all we need to go skiing year round in a little rain.

Well... we are also bad about just making mud for no other reason then to run through it or over it.

Some of the comments in this tread I agree with and some I don't, but the need for a 4x4 should be based off your needs and maybe even wants. You can justify about anything if you want it. I agree with DARGO there's nothing worse than needing it and not having it.

Find a good one and it will become your best friend in times of need and if you ever feel the need to try and bullet proof it...let me know.

Very true. And I can't tell you how many guys I see WANT 4x4 or diesel and end up in NEED of money. ;)

IOW: Nothing's worse than wasting money on 4x4 or a diesel engine, then complaining your broke, either.

True, but if you have to unload that 4x4 or diesel because your broke, you're resale prospects are better, due to higher residual value. :)

Well, you guys sure put a smile on the DW's face last night, I told her the TBN guys said we should get 4X4, she said "I like those guys"

She is picking it up today. Man I hope it is the right choice, but only time will tell that for sure.

This should find it's way to the driveway tonight. Kind of funny after going all over creation looking, found it in a little lot 6 miles from my house.

It's always that way. I was looking at backhoes 300+ miles away, ended up buying one 10 miles away.

Cool deal man! My neighbor, the one who can easily tear up an anvil with a rubber mallet, has 3 of the 1999 Ford F350's. Each is 4X4 and each has been abused beyond what any truck should be. He swears that is the absolute best year for the diesel F350's. Although he is extremely well off, he abuses the living crap out of his equipment and is pathetic when it comes to any preventative maintenance. I'd say the lowest mileage on any of his '99 F350's would be in the 300k range. You ought to be pleased with your new truck!

Does anyone not need 4wd? Has anyone ever regretted getting a 4wd pickup instead of 2wd?

I have a 1998 gas F250 4x4 truck. Before that, I had a diesel and only rarely miss it. The power was there for towing, but I rarely tow anything, so most of the time it wasn't needed. I'll go gas again on my next truck, but I'm unsure on wether I want the V8 or V10. Probably the V8.

My next truck will not be fourwheel drive. I don't have any need for it and the few times a year that I actually use it is because I take chances driving in the mud on my place because I know I have four wheel drive to get unstuck. If I was driving a two wheel drive vehicle, I wouldn't take those chances as there is no reason to be there in the first place.

The price diffrence in buying is part of it, but so is ride quality and especially fuel economy.
