2008 f350 v10?

Good question, I do remember them having issues with removing spark plugs.
If they break when removing them it can be a pain to finish removing them (or $$$ if it's at a shop)
HA, i found my spark plugs very easy to remove on the v10. 2 of them removed themselves with no help from me. One of them 200 miles from home. I drove home on 9 cylinders, got a helicoil, drilled it out and tapped it and put the insert in. I put a transmission funnel on the end of my shop vac to vacuum out all the bits of aluminum. It was not a fun job, but it was not terrible.

A V-10 is a good pulling engine. I have one now in an excursion. I wouldn’t care to have another one in a dually. I’d rather have a V-10 over a 6.0 or a 6.4 any day. I can buy a lot of gas for the repairs the first time the diesel breaks. A dollar or sometimes $1.50 premium for diesel doesn’t help either. The 6.8 was one of the top pulling gas burners of its day and still not bad by today’s standards. Ford had a good transmission too. Ford probably had the best transmission of that day besides an Allison that only made it in one gas truck.

Gasoline engines have little low-down torque. For towing, you need that and not high-rev horsepower, and even smaller Diesels are better in that respect. When Mercedes owned Chrysler their 3 litre Diesel's performance in the Chrysler pick-ups was way better than the 4.7 V8 and only slightly less than the 5.6 litre V8, with 30-35% better mileage.
Average buyer gets hung up on peak numbers. Nobody wants to run a gasser at 6000RPM to achieve max power. Diesel will do it at far lower RPM so fuel consumption is lower, engine life is much longer. Even with gas $1.00 +/- lower than diesel, if you are towing heavy, the lower gas price is gone and then some.

Neighbor had a V-10 and they pulled a big horse camper unit. They had 2 extra leaf springs put in the rear to handle the weight. Ball joints and the spark plugs were the 2 main issues. His newer diesel pulls the trailer better of course.

A v-10 won’t pull like a Cummins but it’s the smoothest power band gas truck I’ve had. And obviously the fuel economy sucks. It’s not what I would buy for everyday trucking. But for an occasional use truck which is what it sounds like the op wants a V10 is a good truck. A 20k diesel truck is a pile that needs frequent repairs. It doesn’t make good sense to buy a 40k or more diesel truck to save $500 a year on fuel or probably less when the V-10 will do the job.

20k diesel trucks don’t exist. They're in far too much demand to sell that cheap.
You can get a 20k gas truck on any corner sales lot, but a 20k gas truck would be a pile that can’t tow anything, either

He’s only wanting to tow 14k not 140k. A V-10 dually will tow that with ease. It’s going to get 8 mpg if it even gets that good but it handle that load good. You realize they put V-10s in 450s, 550s the occasional 650, and motor homes. 14k isn’t that heavy of a load.

You’ll get 8MPG towing 14k on flat ground. Up hills? More like 5mpg

It really boils down to do you want to spend 20k on a nice gas burner and get 5-8 mpg towing or spend 40k or more on diesel trucks to get 12 mpg towing while burning $1-1.50 more expensive fuel and have a truck saddled down with emissions garbage. 3rd option is to buy an older 20k diesel but it’s almost guaranteed you’ll spend more in repairs than just putting gas in the V-10.

I have a 99 v 10 f350 ec lb 4x4 475 k miles on it. 2 original coils still on it, only engine repair was a leak in the intake manifold and spit out 2 plugs. Under 1k in total engine repair. Still a daily driver. Losing the war to rust though new bed all new doors gotta do cab Connors and rockers. It's a 2v and they say the 3v is supposed to be better.🍻
