I have been looking for a cheaper replacement oil filter for this Kohler engine. It uses the FRAM 7575, Hastings LF157 and obviously some other brands. They all are meant for OPE (Outdoor Power) and are pretty pricey. I noticed from another web forum that a Fram PH3614 has all of the same dimensions etc of a Fram 7575 but is listed as an automotive filter and not OPE. Is there really a difference? It is like 75% cheaper. I am guessing OPE specific filters are just more expensive, just because...Just looking for thoughts..

Thank you as always!

OPE filters tend to have the oil bypass valve in the filter, and OPE filter are also normally anti drainback filters.

The OE outdoor power equipment filters are to hit you over the head. $$$ Overpriced junk. The Fram 3600 series xg or otherwise is the same threading and diameter as the 3614. ...just a little longer & more capacity. I have been using the xg 3600 fram and its motorcraft (conventional) equivalent the fl400s on my UTV, Scag, briggs generator, and 2 of my cars. They are anti drainback and have no reason to go into bypass. The Motorcraft were about $4.00 and the XG fram was around $6.50 You can use it if it fits. Adjust to hold a little more oil.

Appreciate your comment and thoughts R134A! I just picked up a 3614 today.

1Mech - Completely amazing... I always forget about RockAuto, you are absolutely correct. The 7575 is typically around $10-$15. I just got the 3614 today for about $4 but thank you for making me aware of RockAuto once again!

The whole side of my refrigerator is covered with Rockauto magnets! And these are just the ones the wife let me keep!

Fram XG class filters are currently the best hence xg3614 would be my choice about $9.
PH series are basic ones.

I no longer buy Fram oil filters.

NAPA Gold (~$9):

I mostly try to shop local.
Your choice. Someone needs to buy inferior products. Napa/WIX is not anymore best.
It is true, it used to be some 20 years ago

Here is the latest test results i could find. Probably there are more updated, but i could not find them.
Wix XP, which is Napa Gold i think, is a very mediocre filter among latest. Fram, Purolator and RP currently are the top choices where Fram XG Ultra synthetic is the best just after the latest Fram Synthetic Endurance which is not part of this test

Back in the day, engines didn't have oil filters. I look at them today as an invalid excuse for extending oil changes anyway.

Right, good old "back in the day", engine needed overalls every ~50K miles, kept us busy and out of trouble.
I also miss them, with filters and contemporary oils motors are just running, and running and running. And we out of boredom keep getting in to trouble. Terrible, i also miss them 50-60 years ago. I remember myself, a young stallion could run on beer whole day long
