I have been looking for a cheaper replacement oil filter for this Kohler engine. It uses the FRAM 7575, Hastings LF157 and obviously some other brands. They all are meant for OPE (Outdoor Power) and are pretty pricey. I noticed from another web forum that a Fram PH3614 has all of the same dimensions etc of a Fram 7575 but is listed as an automotive filter and not OPE. Is there really a difference? It is like 75% cheaper. I am guessing OPE specific filters are just more expensive, just because...Just looking for thoughts..

Thank you as always!

OPE filters tend to have the oil bypass valve in the filter, and OPE filter are also normally anti drainback filters.

The OE outdoor power equipment filters are to hit you over the head. $$$ Overpriced junk. The Fram 3600 series xg or otherwise is the same threading and diameter as the 3614. ...just a little longer & more capacity. I have been using the xg 3600 fram and its motorcraft (conventional) equivalent the fl400s on my UTV, Scag, briggs generator, and 2 of my cars. They are anti drainback and have no reason to go into bypass. The Motorcraft were about $4.00 and the XG fram was around $6.50 You can use it if it fits. Adjust to hold a little more oil.

1Mech - Completely amazing... I always forget about RockAuto, you are absolutely correct. The 7575 is typically around $10-$15. I just got the 3614 today for about $4 but thank you for making me aware of RockAuto once again!

Fram XG class filters are currently the best hence xg3614 would be my choice about $9.
PH series are basic ones.
