Part of it depends on what you want for a lawnmower cut. I had a finish cut for my 1710 which has turf tires and it never tore up the lawn even with the FEL on. I had two problems with it - 1) the weight of the tractor packed the grass down and a day after I mowed the grass int eh tire tracks was fully erect again and taller than the rest of the grass so i never had a real nice cut and 2) the FEL was not near as handy for getting around trees and obstacles which meant a lot more string trimming. Similarly a belly mower on a lawn tractor keeps you from getting into corners as well and as close to things like under the overhanging branches of a lilac bush and therefore there is a lot more trimming. Your choices!
