Hello everyone, I am glad I have found this forum! Seems to be lots of good info here!

The other day I picked up a 2010C with I believe is the 602 blade?

It痴 the 4 cylinder diesel. The number on the engine is 319826.

The SN on the chassis is 2010C 39557

I picked this thing up for $2500, and story goes that it was turned off after work one day some years ago and it never re-started.

It appears that the injection pump is some sort of newer?
Engine seems to turn over fine, glow plugs are very worn.

Also, the diesel primer hoses are gone, and someone has removed the 2 canister filters on the left side of the engine and put a single inline filter there.

I am wanting to fully test and diagnose it痴 starting issue, but I can稚 find anything on doing a compression test on these.

One other thing is I need to fully check the pump timing and it痴 flow to be sure that it is working.

At least 3 cylinders are getting fuel up to them. It痴 not pouring out when cranking with the banjos loose (was hoping to see it pour out like my little tractor).

Cylinder #3 was kind of hard to tell. I also cracked the banjo at the pump, and it didn稚 seem like much fuel was coming out.

Too early to tell yet. I don稚 know much about them, so I知 here to get educated!

The good news is that the undercarriage seems to be in pretty good shape overall, I値l dig into more of that if I can get it started.

2010 diesel engines were good reliable engines, but they were known for being finicky to start and most smoked alot until up to operating temperature. They definitely needed good operating glow plugs and the primer definitely helped too. Not sure what you mean by "worn" glow plugs. They typically either work or they don't. If you have them removed, connect 12 volts to them and they should get red hot in a few seconds. Dont leave power connected too long or they will burn out. If it has been sitting for years, most likely the injection pump will need rebuilding and possibly injectors too. FOr compression, you either need an adapter to screw in place of glow plugs or injectors. Crank engine with gauge installed several compression strokes and you need to see at least 300 psi for most diesels to start and some require more than that. I'll see if I can find spec for the 2010. Edit:
Spec for 2010 diesel compression is 300 - 350 psi at 150 rpm cranking speed or 350 - 400 psi at 250 rpm.

as far as the starting fuel goes, its VERY possible that the inj. pump innards are stuck/gummed up, not supply enough fuel to start the engine.??
IF it has glow plugs, u can get an inexpensive compression tester from Harbor Freight that will test thru the GP holes.
Good luck & I'm here if u need inj. pump guidance.

Found an adapter to screw into the injector hole.

Upon playing with it more today and able to start checking the glow plugs outside of the engine (only did the first two because I was playing with adapters), they do not work at all. I have new ones that came in the mail today.

Also, the threads for the #3 injector body are stripped out where the banjo bolt screws into them. Obviously this would cause an air leak, but looks like I will have to pray for a miracle to find an injector for this thing.

Compression test numbers from the front of the engine are as follows:

Dry:
125, 75, 140, 160

Wet:
140, 100, 160, unchanged at 160

This engine has sat for several years without oil flowing properly or running.

I’ve had a gasoline engine give me horrible compression results after sitting for a few years, and it started right up
and ran perfect about 30 min after getting it going, it still runs good to this day 2 years later.

Anyone have any thoughts on if I should continue with working with the fuel system, or should I expect to remove the head and pull out the pistons?

It will surprise me if you get a 2010 diesel engine to start running with those low compression pressures. I wish you the best of luck.

You may very well be right.

A diesel, ANY DIESEL needs 300 psi to start on its own. SOME will start at 290 w/ "help"..
I say, its worth a try to keep it intact & use the 50/50 mix to loosen the rings.. Whatcha gotta lose.??
& how about snapping a pic of the injector.. I'm at a loss about the stripped "banjo"..
MOST smaller JD's have "pencil" type injectors w/ screw-on return connectors.. & YES, THOSE are easy to cross thread..

I will have to post a picture of the injector tonight, but these are not the pencil type. they are about the size of a 20ga shotgun shell.

Here's a photo of the unique 2010 injector.
