What does chevy's LT package consist of? I'm more familiar with Ford. I have one of Ford's new 6.7L diesel, lariat. If the LT package is similar to a lariat then it's pretty well loaded with every option. Given that the price you were given seems fair. The average seems to be 10% off msrp without factoring in rebates. Your price may be a little high but not to bad.

As far as ford goes, if you want one shop around even if it's another state. The problem is ford's new diesle's are a pretty hot item right now and they know it hence being tight on the prices. The power these things have is impressive

I don't know about ford but I am a GM retiree and get employee pricing and I only get around 8.5% off MSRP. General public usually can't get that unless they have employee pricing for everyone. That doesn't include rebates.
10% including rebates would be closer to average I would think. I don't think Ford or Dodge are much different on employee pricing.

I currently own more Fords than Chevy's. Over the years - more Fords, too. That said; I love my '03 DuraMax!! I've made 6 runs with it over the Alaska Hwy. hauling equipment and towing other heavy loads.

Not even a burp or a backfire! The Allison makes the tranny in my '02 Powerstroke seem like shifting aluminum foil..

Just hauled my 5075M home 100 miles. Weighed in @ 22,500lbs at the landfill scale.

My next truck will probably be a Duramax - unless they're priced so high that I'll start driving the 5075M to do the grocery shopping in! :D

i acctually had you in mind today when we searched on the computer for 3500 SRW 4x4 trucks and we could only locate them in 2wd configurations, and the 2 4x4's we found were work trucks. i really would like one of the f-250/350's but none of the Ford dealers will give you the time of day unless youre ready to pay MSRP. the GVWR on the truck i looked at was 10,000 if i remember right(the Chevrolet 2500). i've also thought about waiting til the 2012's come out but i just didnt want to pass up on this truck if it was a really good deal. it's about 85-90% configured the way i'd want it to be, so i doubt i'd hate it after a few months. this would be SO much easier if you didn't have to spend $50,000 to get a decent truck capable of some real work!!!!

If you want a Ford, you can get X-Plan pricing which amounts to close to invoice. I think you can use it on the F250/350's but you would have to verify with your dealer since some models are excluded. Join the EAA here:
EAA - Ford Partner Recognition Program
You can then request an X-plan PIN immediately. Ford dealers like the X plan since they make more money than if they negotiate the same price when you don't have the x-plan.
Good luck on whichever truck you buy.

... Take a close look at the GVWR of the truck then figure 7,400# with you and fuel. My guess is the payload will be about the same or worse than your 1/2 ton you have now. This is the main issue with 3/4 ton trucks.

X2

You can also buy a few years worth of fuel with the cost of the diesel option.

My neighbor has the new twin turbo V-6 from Ford, he reported 23 mpg at 65 mph...

My dad has been averaging 17-18 mpg around town. He has had it since the first week in May. Actually picked it up Saturday, April 30th, and its not been more than 30 miles from home so no highway mpg figures.

His is a Crew Cab, Short Bed, 3.5L Twin Turbo, 4x4 with 3.73 gears with the highest GVWR and Towing Package.

On way I do price checks is to use Costco Auto program. It allows you to configure your rig and see the "invoice" prices and MSRP. I just use it as a reference, there are other websites that also give the invoice pricing, but Costco was easy for me.
