2011 or 2012 F-250 ??

He said they have had some problems with the version that is installed in the chassis cabs
.

hahahaha... thats a true statement if there ever was one.!!.
The pickup version is starting to show issues as well.. starting to see more and more reports of turbo, injector, and pump failures.... time will tell I guess... I remember when the 6.0 first came out, everyone ranted and raved about how it was the answer to GM's duramax and the Cummins. We all know how that ended up...

The shop foreman said most of the problems they have encountered has been with the computer software. Most of the '03/'04 6.0 problems were computer related. A lot of the mechanical problems resulted from using a chip and causing the heads to lift. I had a stock '04 6.0 and never had a problem with it. I traded a '08 F-450 6.4 and never had a problem with it. The 6.7 seems to be a good engine from what I've been reading on different forums. No engine is going to be completely trouble-free. A lot of the problems on the new diesels is coming from idling too much and going too long between oil changes.

So far I'm satisfied with my '12 F-450. Shop foreman at the dealership I use says they have had very few problems with the 6.7 diesel. He said they have had some problems with the version that is installed in the chassis cabs but the pickup version has been pretty much problem free.

I wonder why that is. I'd really like to know what the difference in the chassis cabs and pickup body engines is to cause the issues.

We have three '11 chassis cab 6.7s at work. One has been problem free, the other has been in the shop twice. Bad sensor the first time, fuel pump the second.

Ok, I am partial to Fords when it comes to 3/4 tons and up but boy, these pics of these new ones are sure pretty.:D

I want one of each color.

I think the chassis cabs have a different turbo set-up and computer programming. Whatever they do results in the downrated horsepower and torque to 300/660 compared to the pickup of 400/800.

Trust me when I tell you he's NOT telling you the whole truth... That dealership has replaced engines in 5 new trucks that I know of for fractured exhaust valves destroying the engine.
The dealership in Gladewater has the engine swap procedure down to an art on the new 6.7L Ford engines... They can get one done in about 2 weeks now..
Yes, we have had MANY software revisions and running test software now.. None of these trucks have ever had a programmer and oil changes have been at a strict 5K miles done by dealerships only...

Thanks everyone for your opinions and comments. keep 'em coming.
I'm looking at local inventory but haven't done much talking to any particular dealer yet.

I have an 05 F-150 FX4 that I hate to trade in or sell privately because it has never given me a lick of trouble in 10200 miles. I bought it new and have maintained it per the schedule and its been great. My only gripe is the MPG could be a bit better. The truck is all stock, no chip changes or reprogramming or aftermarket parts. I track my mileage and have journaled every drop of fuel I have put in that truck and it has consistently been between 15.5 and 17 since day one. The lower figures are in the summer with the AC running or when towing a light trailer (<4000#) the MPG would drop to 15. IT's mostly flat ground around these parts so nothing to make the 5.4 Triton V8 do any real work. It's has great acceleration and handling and performs well in the snow and I got to test it real good last winter with three 24"+ snows during the season and a few lighter ones to fill in between.

A 1 ton would be more than I need. A 3/4T is more than I need 80% of the time. It's when I put that loaded dump trailer behind it with the Bobcat or a load of firewood that I will need the pulling power that my F-150 doesn't give me now.

Why don't you keep that truck and buy an older used truck for the dump trailer? You could get a 3/4 ton, in good shape, about 10 years old for 8 to 10 thousand around here.

Not saying you haven't had problems. Odd that it's happened to that many. I don't do business with the dealer in Gladewater. I also don't have any reason to not trust the dealer I use, I've bought 21 new Fords from them since '76. If they ever gave me the runaround that would be the end of my business with them. I've also known some of the mechanics there since '76 and I ask their opinions and do trust their judgement. Their opinion is that the 6.7 is a good engine and I have no reason to doubt them. Maybe you need to give another dealership your business, Gladewater needed to stick with Buicks.
