2011 Silverado issue

So far they found nothing. All seal and boots look good. The tire is out of balance, but I really want to know where the grease is coming from. I see it only under the driver door, not in wheel wells or under the truck.

I know this sounds crazy but check the U Joints. I have replaced 4 now on my neighbors 2007 Chevy. About 85,000 miles. First two were GM parts at his request. Last two, one last fall and one last week were Moog. That's 6 total now.

Not saying that's it but he reported grease on his running board the shortly after it started making noise.

Highly unlikely. I've only replaced one 1/2 ton rear u-joint over the last 12 years and that was at 150k when it started making noise. Never any grease showing anywhere as they are plastic sealed. I find it hard to believe that the minimal amount of grease in a u-joint would be noticeable at 3 feet to the running boards, not like it's a vertical leak with high RPM rotation.

Under the drivers door leads me elsewhere...GM wheel bearings make a ton of noise before failure (generally), GM ball joints last forever. CV's generally won't cause tire wear and I've also never had one go bad on a GM 1/2 ton and never heard of one going out unless it was ruined by a foreign object.

Something might be softening in the LA heat/humidity and dripping...Ergo my aftermarket rustproofing question.

I honestly think and have thought for some time my neighbors Dmax has a drive line issues. Its on its 6th U-Joint, 2 replaced under warranty, a transfer case replaced under warranty, a main seal replaced under warranty on the Allison, and 2 carrier bearings, 1 replaced under warranty.

He had them check the alignment of things and balance the drive shaft. They said they found no issues.

He has had no front end problems. Its all been aft of the tranny.

No, there is no aftermarket rustproofing. The dealer feels the noise I am hearing is from the tire wear due to being out of balance. I should have it back today.

Got it back yesterday. Rotated and balanced tires, noise is gone. Found no grease leaking. I checked again at home- nothing. All fittings, joints and boots are in proper working order.

I'm betting you just ran over something.

Front toe is likely a bit off and chewing the tires more on the inside.

That's good news...I've had no mechanical issues with my 2011 GMC in almost 50K miles...Had a throttle body electronic failure, that's it...I haven't had to replace a front suspension part in more than 20 years on a GM 1/2 ton...That's why I found this odd.

This is my 5th silverado. All have been free of any major mechanical issues. My 05 Z71 had a few minor issues. I needed a bigger truck at the time and traded it in after 2 years. I have also owned 4 Fords. Other than a new motor at 140k on my 97 and some minor electrical issues, they were good too.

the 2004's/2005's were known to have hub bearing assembly issues. I replaced mine once at 90,000 miles. My friend who has the same truck has replaced his three times (150,000 on the truck). I didn't keep my 2011 but for a year so I didn't experience the grease issue.

Didn't have that problem with my 09 Silverado 4x4, but I have had a couple of issues. All but #4, 5, 6 occurred between 25k and 30k miles. Truck currently has 35k on it.

1. The driver control module went out sporatically. It would run fine then it would just die, removing the + battery reset the computer and wiped the error code but allowed me to limp home. Took the dealer three days to figure it out. Replaced under warranty. Stranced on 75 mutiple times between Cincinnati and Lexington pulling a trailer.
2. Some sort of vent valve between the gas tank and the engine went out. Dealer says around $400 if you're paying and they see it frequently. It was also hard to fill with gas so they replaced some other valve in the fuel tank. Replaced under warranty. Remains hard/slow to fill with gas.
3. Passenger side door lock quit sporatically worked. Replaced under warranty.
4. Drivers side door lock sporatically works exactly like #3. Not currently replaced due to being out of warranty period. Parts are around $5, but taking the door panel off will be painful.
5. Recently got a letter extending the warranty on some piece of electronic control. No current issues, but filed it in the glove box given the above history.
6. Changing oil over the weekend, noticed the front axle is seeping oil.

(sarcasm) I'm so happy I bought a new truck and traded my 150k mile truck so I wouldn't have to deal with mechanical issues (sarcasm).
