What I see left out is the economy version. 225 or 250hp diesel, 30+mpg in a 2wd...

You gotta go back to 1992!

These HP/torque wars are getting ridiculous.

The diesel option is supposed to be the same price as in the '10's, $6500

That's gonna make it tough to sell the 10's. If there are any leftovers, be a good time to make a deal.

Don't know the figures, but truck sales are way down across the board.

Man that engine is a complicated looking beast.

First Look: Ford's All-New 6.7-Liter V-8 Power Stroke Diesel Engine - PickupTrucks.com News

Two separate/independent cooling systems with 2 water pumps and 2 radiators.

I don't know how Ford has such high payload and towing numbers, comparing to Ram, the Ram has a slightly higher rated rear axle but the Ford has 1500 more pounds of payload and 6000 more towing?

3rd diesel in 7 years, maybe this one will be the charm, but it looks awfully complex to me. With the way the economy is, it's gonna be a tough sell. Not just Ford, but all the big 3's high end line.

JB.

That's because they are comparing a Ram 3500, Chevy 3500, and the Ford is an F-450 not an F-350

They are comparing the 350 series in the Ford. Fords is the only one with a 450 size truck and the 250 and 350 share chassis, brakes, ect. In a nut shell Ford gets the high numbers simply because they have a heavier chassis. Its been this way for years.

I am glad to see they did not compromise anything and are able to still be at the head of the pack.

the all-new 2-valve SOHC 6.2-liter gasoline V-8 is rated at 385 horsepower (at 5,500 rpm) and 405 pounds-feet of torque (at 4,500 rpm)
Hmmm, a huge gas guzzling 6.2 liter V8 producing 385HP at 5,500rpms and 405lb-ft. at 4,500rpms vs the 8 year proven 5.7 liter HEMI producing 390HP at 5,500 rpms and 407lb-ft of torque at just 3,900rpms.

So how is this at "the head of the pack"? Let me guess, now it's cool for an engine to need high rpms to produce power since the Ford does. Gee, it must be a race car engine and should never be in a truck...

The diesel engine sounds impressive though, it will be nice to see if it holds up in a few years. I don't understand the 21,600lb towing capacity, there is no way the truck weighs 4,400lbs or less so that means the GCWR would have to be over 26,000lbs. Who wants a 1-ton dually truck that they have to have a CDL just to drive, even empty...?

I have a 2008 F350 Dually Diesel with the Tow Boss package and let me give you one word: UNBELIEVABLE!

Why? One more word: CONTROL

The Tow Command system and the transmission work together flawlessly giving the driver a world of confidence. I was towing my JD on my tilt bed trailer (16 klbs) on a secondary road at highway speeds (60) when I came across stopped traffic on a down hill turn on wet pavement. I was able to yank her to a safe stop without as much as a slip, slide or bounce! It made a believer out of me.

It is hard to measure and put numbers on that kind of performance, but it is things like that which make for a great truck.

I would not even consider a 250, 350, or 450 with a gas motor. I was only looking at the diesel.

My head of the pack comment was on the chassis, towing, and payload.

What are you talking about?

Why would you need a CDL to drive it empty?

I think that has something to do with Dodge's lower rating, I read something about it on the truck sites I believe.
Like they're derating them so as not to require stricter qualifications for operators. Don't know if this is true or not, But I do remember hearing about it.

Class 5 Ram 5500 only rated at like 18,000, while the 3500 Ram is almost the same?

Why would you need a CDL to drive it empty?

If that F-350 can tow 21,600 lbs then it must have a GCWR of at least 28k-34k lbs, unless they limit it to 26,000lbs exactly and that truck weighs less then 4,400lbs which I highly doubt (my 1/2 ton weighs 5,200lbs). If that truck has a GCWR of 26,001 lbs or more then you need a CDL license to drive it, even empty.

Section 259:12-e Commercial Motor Vehicle.

Ford is just playing the numbers game as usual knowing most people don't have a clue about GCWR's and GVWR's and all they see is a tow capacity higher then another truck so it must be better.

The Ford truck's that are rated at 26k GCWR or less so you do not need a CDL are only rated to tow 18k lbs which is around the same as the others. In order to get that higher 21k tow capacity you have to move up to a truck with a 4.30 rear end and a GCWR of 33k lbs which is way over CDL. So for this new F-350 to have a tow capacity of 21,600lbs, I guarantee it will have a GCWR of over 26k. This is for the 2010 models but I doubt much has changed for the 2011's.
