2012-2013 Yanmar 30hp-40hp tractors, are they any good ?

I think most us here like our yanmars for reliability, simplicity and cost. Yes power steering would be nice. But that's about it. Why spend $15k on a tractor that will do the same thing as a $3k tractor??? In today's economy it just doesn't make sense.

Not sure I follow your sense of reasoning. Everyone wants to save $$$, but it's nice to have so many choices, and if we're willing to pay the 15K, why not....If everyone bought the 3K tractors there'd be some companies in dire straits....
I've asked the moderators to install a "New" Yanmar forum, to differentiate between the 2. I , as well as others here, own one of the "New" Yanmars, and love it. But we don't really have a home to post.....:(

Well, I will say this about my powerful steering. My shoulders, neck, and back sure do appreciate the PS and it prolongs my day to be productive a lot.

i agree not everyone needs a $3k tractor. due to ability and do they want to fix it every 2-3 years or not, in the case of them buying a new tractor from some company today. OH sorry i could not resist. But even i think Yanmar will be hard pressed to make as reliable tractor as they did in the YM series.

But you are correct. Every one wants shiny things. For many reasons. Sometimes as simple as the little man syndrome.

I bought a new 2012 LX410 last fall ( 41hp, shuttle shift ). Love it.....when it runs.

At about 75hrs, it started randomly shutting off.....might do it in 5 minutes, or run 5 hours......just like you turned the key switch off. Dealer said 'bad fuel solenoid', replaced it and it seemed fine.

Until 210hrs, when the problem returned.

Dealer put another solenoid on it, and I took it home. Unloaded off the trailer, let it sit there idling and it quit twice in 15min. Did a little around the place ( moving some firewood logs ), it quit once in next 1/2 hour. Took it BACK to the dealer, where it's been for a week now. Called Yanmar in Georgia several times....dealer is supposed to replace fuel solenoid relay, and try to get it to repeat the problem. Then the main relay ( which all the seat/neutral/brake/PTO safety switches run thru ), and so on and so on until they think they have it.

Like I said....love it when it runs. Had a YM220 4x4 I bought new in mid 80's.....great tractor, just too small (22hp no loader ). Went to a 1998 33hp New Holland 1925.....still too light....broke all kinds of stuff on it. ( I run a sawmill in addition to farm work ). Went back to this Yanmar, and it seems to fill my needs.....except for the 'stay running' issue.

Think I'll be happy with it once they finally solve this issue. One other minor gripe....the lever for the 3pt lift is WAY too far back on the machine.....you have to really reach back behind you to raise/lower the lift......hard to do if you have any shoulder arthurItis.

I have an Sc2450 and it is not the size you are interested in but the same kind of quality and craftsmanship. I feel the Yanmars are a quality unit and I am very pleased with mine. Yanmar is losing dealers left and right.

Why do you think Yanmar is loosing Dealers left & right ? No way I would buy a new 1 the way they have treated the dealers selling used ones. When mine dies, I'll buy something, but it won't be a new yanmar

Each to their own. I know that is a very heated topic on all the tractor boards but, does anybody really have the right reasons and answers???

The US arm of Yanmar filed a vast series of lawsuits against people who used the word "Yanmar" when advertising their tractor(s) for sale, amongst other things, and, (in my view, shockingly) won. They also filed suit against people who sold parts for or from Yanmar tractors. Yanmar's position is essentially that they own the authority to use the word "Yanmar" in an advertisement in perpetuity, and that they get to determine who can use a photograph of a Yanmar tractor they own to sell said tractor.

This is a push-back against a series of lawsuits Yanmar was served after people were injured or killed using Yanmar tractors that were not originally sold in this country.

As with most things, the entire range of views shows up on the internet, from those who think that Yanmar ought to be able to dictate when a person can sell their tractor, and to whom they can sell, to those who think once Yanmar sells a tractor, where it goes and who it belongs to and how it is described in a classified ad they have given up any right of contest, no matter what.

Thanks for a little history, I wasn't aware of that....
I bought all 3 of my tractors from dealers more than 300 miles from me. If I need a part, I have it shipped or dropped shipped from my favorite dealer also 300 miles away. His price with shipping is lower than local dealers. Never had a tractor back for repair/service, so the whole "local dealer" issue for me is naught.
It is a bit concerning that they would be losing dealers versus growing dealers tho....
