2012 F-350 - First Impressions

I can't speak to the Chevy/Duramax engine brake but I have a 2012 Ram 3500 with the Cummins and the engine brake is awesome. I haven't towed too much with it yet but if I shift the auto trans down manually when stopping I hardly use the brakes at all. It has more power than I can use. So far a great truck.
Matt.

I have to second that :thumbsup:Exhaust brake is awesome my ride.JPG

Why can't it also send a report to your iPhone so you can review the data in more detail later? That way you could cross reference other charts and determine how to optimize. Those computers are fantastic but totally under utilized.

You can do that in a round about way. The data gets sent to Ford using your phone and Ford Syncョ, then it is emailed to you at the email address your registered with Sync. I wish you could connect via BT to the computer and then run an app on your phone to show whatever your want. There is an app called TORQUE available on Android Market which uses a BT transmitter that plugs into the diagnostic port and connects to your phone and does just that. Garmin also makes an adapter that will connect to some of their newer GPS units or to your phone running their Garmin Mechanic app where you can see way more information than is allowed on the trucks display.

Thanks, I'll give that a try. Didn't read anything about that in the manual and didn't see it anywhere else.

Found this photo which shows what I;m talking about for those who have not seen it. You can see the gears displayed along the right margin, I don't see that on my display on any of the screens and no way to enable it. I will try hitting the + button on the shift lever next time I am in the truck, hopefully that will do it. If not I will ask the dealer if it can be programmed to show it.

Well it worked. I tapped the + button and the gears are now displayed, thanks.

I used my dump trailer to move the Bobcat today. A short tow only 10 miles. Truckdrove like the teailer wasen't even there. Of course at only 7600 pounds it wasn't much of a load either.

I did have one problem, I got a 'diesel exhausr fluid system error' onthe screen. It said the truck would go to limp mode (max 50 mph) starting in 50 miles. I got the message again a couple miles later. Both messages came up while towing. After I had shut the motor down and restarted it the error message and the system error icon on the screen were gone and did not come back.

You had better talk to the dealer about that. That limp mode is not really a limp mode, it is a government mandate to force you to keep your DEF system working and fluid filled. It will eventually limit you to like 5 MPH or something if you try to ignore it. It sounds like yours is malfunctioning :/

So many problems with these DEF systems already. Color me surprised...

I just read all 3 pages here, I must really be turning into a dinosaur! Nothing against you fellas that like all those "gizmos" on your pick ups, but I'd gladly trade all that (computer) **** for a few more thousands in sheet metal thickness, real bumpers, and a metal dashboard to hold my magnet clip for my paper notes and reciepts! oh yeah, give me some wing windows also! I'm still pushing a couple of 7.3 and for the life of me just don't understand how they get away with selling a PU truck @ 50K+? My "old" trucks, (01 350 and 00 450) were at least 15K less when new, not all that long ago. Now they don't have all that electronic stuff, but all those gadgets wont drive a nail or get a lick of work done on the job. And I don't get anywhere near that much more for my work (as they charge for these trks) on the jobs as a contractor, and even back then I wondered if I was working for the truck or was the truck working for me?
Sorry about the rant, it prolly is Mr Jim Beam talking, he helps out my knee pain after a long day on the job site!

Jeff beat me to it. You can still buy a plane work truck for a lot less:thumbsup:
