2012 NH Boomer 30 HST or Kioti CK30 HST? Value?

Thanks guys! I'm glad I didn't go with a SubCUT. The 30 looked so big in the showroom but the woods make it seem rather small. Lifting log ends and rocks, I can feel her limits already. An interesting note. Four hours on the tractor and I had already filled in a long ditch, cleared debris from a woodpile and planed a bit of rutted driveway. I'm pushing a log deep in the woods and suddenly she stalls. Can't start her again. Doesn't turn over or click. ****! I shot a txt to the salesman, Ron, over at Springer's in St. Johnsville for advice. 30 minutes later, he's on his way over to see if he can help. This, mind you, at dusk, 2 miles off the highway, on a raining Saturday night! Talk about service. Anyway, he checks everything to no avail.

Fast forward to Monday to 8am. He and a mechanic found their way back in to the camp, (with an accidental visit to the only other camp in the woods). 20 minutes later the problem was solved. I had offered to tow it out to the main road but they said there's no place they can't get to. Anyway, seems the butt end of one of the logs laying in the woodpile must have flipped up under the front wheel, spearing back a steel bracket. That caused the HST pedal safety relay to bend and show it as being in gear, thus, it wouldn't start. I'll need to be more mindful of vulnerable spots in the undercarriage. The larger lesson here for me, and perhaps all future owners sharing my ignorance, is that buying locally from a good dealer is critical. Could be you'd never need them. Could be, like me, you need them badly. What would I have done, way up in the woods with 4000lbs of dead tractor? Not much.

Very happy with the dealership. Very happy with the tractor. So a big thanks to all you guys here for being good coaches. Box blade should be here tomorrow. Tooth bar and multipurpose spade on order.

Best,
Doc

Good deal, sounds like you were well treated by your dealer. Funny isn't it how a tractor can shrink so fast when you start to actually using them. Wishing you many happy years with your new machine:thumbsup:

Thanks, James. Your sage advice was indispensable. I appreciate your patience. You and the others are, indeed, "teachers of the craft". :D

It's a Mitsu, Nick. Got some good use out of her yesterday despite heavy rain and deep mud. Still not used to dragging the box blade. I'm making more mess than progress, but it's getting better.

did it come with draft control? i find i can drop my box blad all the way down then control how much it is dragging with the draft control. i let is dig then pull back on the draft lever until i am just dragging around a box full and let it fill in pot holes and ripples on its own.

I'll be grading on a 10ft wide dirt road with plenty of ruts, crowns, rocks, and potholes. Mostly flat and gentle slopes, a few areas maybe a 20 degree grade.

What's the appropriate way to choose the new boxblade for my new tractor? By width for what I need to do, by matching size with the available HP, or by width of the tractor? The charts usually show HP recommended, but there was something about the implement not sticking out far past the rear wheels?

These are great for maintaining roads or paths!

I had a buddy build a road scraper/drag blade/whatever you want to call it. It works much better than a box blade for this purpose. Land pride also makes one where you can vary the depth of cut slightly which might be nice in some cases. The blades on mine are fixed with regard to depth.

Your thread has been very helpful to me. I have a Kubota L3000DT that was my dads. It doesn't have a FEL. I considered adding one to it but am leaning towards getting a new tractor with a FEL. I like the Kubota L3240 but it is pricey. I'm looking at the Boomer 30 next but drove a Kioti CK35 HST today. I liked the Kiote but my kept hitting the hydraulic filter when I pressed the back of the HST peddle to back up. This might keep me away from the Kioti but liked it otherwise.

Are you moving your foot or just pushing down with your heel when reversing? I haven't seen others mention your problem and I never had it with my smaller CK20. What size shoe?

I was moving my foot. It just didn't feel comfortable rocking it back and forth. I think this would have worked fine if the peddle was a bit smaller. My shoe is a size 10. It just seemed like I needed to move my foot forward or backwards. Balancing in the middle didn't give me the leverage I needed. The Kubota L3200 has the same type pedal and but it doesn't have the filter behind it so not as much of an issue. The Kubota L3240 has a completely different pedal which is much more user friendly. I hope to try the Boomer 30 tomorrow. I really would like the L3240 but it is really hard justifying the price.

The reason you are hitting your heel is that it is supposed to stay on the rocker pedal. I know it takes some getting used to (I had a rocker type forward/reverse HST on my previous tractor a CK20) but once you get used to it is is just fine. The disadvantage is that it is not as natural a movement for someone coming from a two pedal system or a car but believe me it will become more natural. The advantage is that your foot is always in the right position for going either direction. Honestly I prefer the two pedal system but I got used to the single rocker pedal on my CK20 and it was not a disadvantage at all.

All the tractors you are looking at are excellent machines. Kioti is typically the best bang for the buck though.

Good luck in your search.

Thanks! I agree that I would get used to whatever pedal style I ended up with.
