2013 Hay Season

   / 2013 Hay Season #361
A neighbor was burning trash today and let it get away from him setting one of my hay fields on fire. We were able to get it stopped before it got to the majority of the hay we had stacked. We did loose 5 bale that were setting closer to his fence. Could have been a lost worse.

First year I have ever insured my hay. Glad it got stopped before a big loss...

I attempted ,to cut some today, didn't work out very well. Hooked up cutter, rode it 10 miles and just to wet,was rutting so done for the year once again:D

I hear you! Been trying to shred my pastures now for a couple weeks. Either it keeps raining or I do exactly what you did - get out there, make one or two passes and realize it's too durn wet still.

After you loose 50 or 60 rd bales to a fire it's not hard to justify the hay insurance premium. I keep 300 rd bales insured the yr round.

in the drought of 2010 our custom baler had equipment prob an burned off our 40ac meadow.an we lost all of the hay except for 5 bales on that meadow.figure we lost 40 bales min.we had to eat that lose.the custom baler didnt offer to pay for our lose.so we went into the winter with 65 bales.thankfully we made it without buying hay or culling the herd to the bone.

I have million dollar policy on all my lease places for any damages in case I have a fire when baling or fall asleep and run threw the house type stuff. Now I'm not sure if it covers crop lost but atleast if I mess someone elses place up it will cover that and my equipment. It will also cover if cows get out and someone hits them, and pays 1000 per head if I lose any. I been working with my agent and rates really not that bad,to CYA...

In this era I won't set my equipment on someone else's property without my million dollar liability ins policy. I had a rd baler catch fire several years back and it's sickening feeling waiting for VFD after the water fire extinguisher is EMPTY and baler & field is still burning

I have to feed hay just off a gas well location this year,we have had another 6inches and pastures are soaked. Been along time since but have baried my old tractor to the cab and had to call winch truck few days later to get it out, hope this means good hay year next year,im looking forward to starting the 2014 hay season. Maybe even add the new Kubota rake,to replace my WR22. The Kubota cutter also looks like the vicon I have maybe the curtain will fit:D.

a few years ago my brother had 2 bales of hay on the 7700 an stuck it to the rear axel.it was stuck so bad it stood the winch truck up on its backend a time or 2 an slammed it to the ground before it finally unstuck the tractor.
