Tractor
Massey Ferguson 1734E
Tractor has been running well, since I bought it. I have been keeping the fuel to it so it doesn't come close to getting low. My first question am I supposed to be putting some type of additive int the fuel or in another place on the tractor. It has the DPF filter on it and my friend says I should be adding " DEP" (DPF) Fluid?? I am confused since I find nothing about this in the manual... Second question Anti freeze/coolant same stuff you put in cars or is there something special. Big question , can I put a back hoe attachment on this tractor? What brand and size You guys are great thank you

Many newer diesels call for DEF (diesel exhaust fluid) though not all tractors do. Many tractors over 25 horsepower come with a DPF or diesel particulate filter which does not necessarily require DEF. Your manual should say where to put it if required. Different cars require different coolants - they're not all the same anymore. Your manual should say though many tractors still take the old standby ethylene glycol. You can put a backhoe on nearly any tractor but it's not always advisable, especially the three point kind. If worked too hard it can break the tractor frame. Check with your MF dealer and be prepared to be shocked by the price. If only needed occasionally renting or hiring it done may be a better option.

DEF is only above 75HP, so nothing to worry there.

Before the temp drops you should have an anti jell in the diesel. I have
been using PS all year long

Your friend isn't well versed in modern diesels. The guys above are right.

Thank you all , I find nothing in my manual about what type of anti freeze tho I will look again for that , I doesn't get that cold here in TN to require an anti gel. If I were up north yes an I remember them telling me way back when that I needed that type of fuel for my furnace, that was back in the 70's. SO no DEF for my tractor awesome, one less expense :)
