It doesn't show payload.

Not a big deal, when I was shopping for a new tow vehicle both Ford and GM did not have payload specs on their webs sites (that I ever found), you had to go to the show room and look at the brochure. May be they will get this together once they finalize their J2807 compliant numbers.

Its a different chart.

The dodge chart doesnt show the body configuration either. Options that add weight take away from towing. Like quad cab, 4wd. long bed, etc. I think the important number is the GCWR, which dodge has at 37,900 with the 4.11 gear option.

Currently the best ford has is a 35,000 GCWR option and takes 4:30 gears to do that.

Yes it does, look at the green rows, they list (for example) "REGULAR CAB, 4X2, DRW" or "CREW CAB SHORT BOX, 4X4, SRW" for the rows under them.
Thats pretty much the same chart that Dodge has had for years, here is the 2010 version: http://www.dodge.com/bodybuilder/2010/docs/ram/rammlup1500.pdf

The highest rated pickup Ford builds is the F-450 which is rated at 40,400# GCWR. The 35,000# rating would be for an F-350.

Wow, dont know how I missed that:mur:

The 450 is a higher class truck. So I wasnt comparing that. Ram makes a 4500 and 5500 also. But in the brief time I searched I couldnt find a similar chart showing them

Ram and GM do not make a 450 sized pickup. Only cab and chassis. Not the same class.

I thought a couple years ago Dodge stopped putting gas engines in the 3500 pickups. They stated that almost everyone buys the diesel so they stopped putting gas engines in them.

No you can get a 5.7 or 6.4 Hemi in the 3500 ram.

There's no reason Ram could not make a 4500 pickup. Their high capacity 3500 could be designated a 4500, almost the same ratings as the F-450 pickup. The F-450 is not the same truck as the F-450 chassis cab, actually has a much higher tow rating than the chassis-cab. The F-450 pickup is designed to pull, the F-450/550 chassis cabs are designed to carry. Ram could do the same thing. Excellent trucks.

Either way, it is unfair to compare a f450 to a 3500 IMO.

Comapre apples to apples. Dodge doesn't have a comparable apple. Maybe demand ain't there. If you need an apple, but the f450. If you are shopping for oranges, compare the 350 and 3500
